I am trying to figure out a console to go in between my buckets in my 51 Chevy pu. I believe it is around 9" between the seats. I am wanting to maybe have a small area underneath for a little toolbox and drinkholder in front of the seats that are covered when not used.I was thinking of building it out of 1/2 " tubing and covering it with 1/8" plywood or paneling before upholstering it. Any ideas are appreciated.
Are there any cool narrow consoles in maybe 60's cars I might use all or part of? It would be nice to have a place to store stuff on road trips , not alot of room in these old trucks. I have taken the fuel tank from behind my seat so I am looking into ideas for storage and upholstery behind the seats too. Thanks.
I recently parted out a 65 Riv and took the nailhead for use in my 53 F100. I'm thinking about using the seats out of it too, as well as taking the center console, flipping it around and cutting it off, so that what was originally facing the back seat of my Riv is now facing the dash on the pickup (not sure if it'll fit)... It's got some nice looking chrome trim on it, as well as a courtesy light, cigarette lighter as well as a flip-top storage bin. They are almost always cracked where the tabs meet the underside of the dash, so you can pick em up pretty cheap.
Yeah I was thinking of installing a cigarette lighter in mine for charging my cell phone ,It would be cool to find one with a lighter etc..already made into it.I will probably hide different controls , IPOD ,etc in mine also.
I built this one around 15 years ago. The console between the buckets was fabbed out of wood. Just get out some cardboard and get creative..
These are the only shots I have... They're kinda shitty, but you can get the idea of where the cigarette lighter is etc.
Here are some ideas. http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/my-door-panels-center-console-64983.html?highlight=console http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/my-console-project-55721.html?highlight=console
Thanks for the ideas guys. I will have to try to combine some designs to get what I am wanting . Probably two pieces.
