Here in Melbourne, Australia open car weather is not terribly reliable so I'm looking to get a top made for my '29 roadster, and I was wondering what can be made to fit as far as the usual stainless steel deluxe style roadster top irons go. Seems from the pictures on the Brookville site that most of the top iron kits are very similar. Most will ask why not just get the set made for '29 roadsters but as I will be in LA in two weeks time and not all stockists have the complete range I'd like to bring something home that I can make my top with. So my question is can roadster pickup top irons from Brookville be used or made to work on roadsters? Also are 30-31 wood bows able to be used on 28-29 roadster bodies?

29's have a funky looking set of top irons and are difficult to chop as well as 30 and 31 standard, (I.M.O.) 31 deluxe looks the best but are to wide, This is what I used on 29 I am building. There is a company that will do oak bows that are the right width for your 29. (Bent Wood Bows in Pennsylvania)

Thanks for the reply Walter, yes the original '29 irons are pressed steel with straight timber bows, but I'm not interested in those, only the flat bar style top irons generally associated with 30-31 deluxe roadsters that Brookville stock, as these are able to be modified and in my opinion look better.

Sid Chavers makes a complete Bop Top for the 28/29 roadster, check his website.

Thanks for the response Krylon32, but as mentioned, I'm really only interested in the possibilities of modifying and/or interchangeability of Brookville style top irons. If you've built your own traditional style flat bar based top irons with timber bows then I'd also be very interested to see that also. Not interested in any of the Bop Top, Kwik Top, or other modern style tops or mechanisms. Kind regards.
