I noticed the photographer was Eric Rickman, in a 1954 Car Craft. I did not realize he'd been writing and photo shooting that far back - only that he had a great career with Hot Rod in the late 50s and 60s.

The proportions of this car are really great but.....I'm with you concerning the front fenders. I think the car would look better with no fenders, but I can at least tolerate the rear ones. It would be cool if this car popped up somewhere as a result of this thread.

interesting that the fenders appear to be bolted to the frame, which explains why they needed the extra spacing. a detail like that was good enough to get into a magazine, or earn a trophy then.......but would probably keep it out of a contention now.....................why?

I agree the proportions and stance are wonderful! Just loose the fenders. Maybe they're there just to satisfy the local authorities :)

I think that the proportions are right on,but I too would lose the fenders. And,I think that the Round Man name came from the fact that he owned a bar in San Rafael.

That is a very nice rod! And those fenders just screams; I have to keep out of trouble with The Man!

I Was born and raised in San Rafael Cal. I remember the Bar the Yacht Club it had a port hole on the door it was under p*** 101 Hy at 3rd st one day I am walking by looked in back and the Hubbard race car crosley sedan was there I think later it was sold to the Marin Coupe and Roadster Club. George Rowell later I found out was the head of the Pacific Roadster Club Berkeley Cal. 50 members 1941 he wrote for Throttle mag until the War started. My brother remembers the 32 parked at the place 1954 he thinks the car was re done later by Dave Soderstrom and Hal Hutchins Hot Mag Jan 1960. As far as those front fenders Allard ? he was also a SCCA buff. Also the car appears in the book Hot Rods of the 50s a back shot 1956 Oakland show Joe Carlomago owner S.F . The crosley in the marin coupe roadster display. I have a few programs Northern California Auto Racing called S P E E D 1946 1947 with ads George had a speed shop with Ben Sanders called Sanders and Rowell 3100 San Pablo Ave Oakland 8, California Open 8 am to Midnight.
