So a few years ago, the HAMB drags got too big. We registered something like 300 cars, the pits were a mess, some guys only got to run once or twice, and I had ZERO fun. So, the next year we did pre-registration only and that allowed me to limit the field to 200 cars. That worked great for a couple of years and then we started filling the field within a couple of weeks of opening registration. That ****ed, because we missed out on some GREAT cars... So, what I've done every year since is get more and more strict on the cars being traditional in appearance. For example, this year we are getting more strict on wheels... We've rejected a lot of cars on wheels alone. However, we are grandfathering SOME cars in... It's just too hard for to tell a guy that has registered for 10 straight years - NO. In any case, I've been asked a lot about this and wanted to post some reasoning. Thanks, Ryan BTW, if you are interested in registering for the 2015 HAMB Drags, you can still do so. Just go here: www.hambdrags.com
If you have goofy wheels, do you still get to drink beer in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn??? If so, I think everything will be alright... See you in six weeks. -Abone.
Somebody has to make the tough calls- Thanks for managing the HAMB Drags as you see fit. Still the best thing going!
You have to draw the line somewhere. Wheel to me are a major make break point for a lot of cars. A can awesome until bargain wheels get purchased and installed. My Sedan for example is not a 100% traditional car. I didn't even know what traditional was when I built it 15 years ago. I built it in the same frame of mind that guys in the 5o's and 6o's would have just with today's junk. I did what most poor hotrodders do, use what was cheap, free and available. There are tons of things I would do different now but I have just tried to change what I can to make it have a "more traditional or hotrod" look. Hopefully one day it will even get a straight axle. Thanks for letting me hang in there with the rest of the crowd who did it right the first time.
