I have a '39 Ford two door sedan, sbc, Mustang radiator. I had a 12" fan in addition to my mechanical fan but it would get up to 205 degrees or so. I installed a Spal, 14", 1843cfm fan. Same thing. I've only got about 2 1/2 " from the radiator to the pulley bolts so I installed a pusher. I'm about ready to try a 3000 cfm fan but am unsure about my alternator output. I think it's about 83 amps or so. Anyone run into this before? Is 3000 enough? Thanks in advance, Rod

My opinion, if the radiator is undersized, all the fans in the world won't cool it, but 205f isn't very hot to begin with. As a matter of fact it's pretty much normal.

I have a SBC, Mustang radiator, 17" Hayden flex fan and a hoop shroud 3/4 of the way around the fan. It works for me.

Do you have a fan on both sides of your radiator? This is generally a no-no. What happens is the air movement by both fans collide and cause a hot zone. The mustang radiator should work fine. Is it the 1965 289 auto one?

205º is a normal operating temperature.

blue 49, I have a 17" mechanical fan. Where did you get your shroud? I'm looking at those 3 3/4" Mustang shrouds, a little pricey, I thought. I thought I'd try that first. I think it would make a big difference.
chessterd5, I have a mechanical fan and an electric Spal, a pusher, in front.

Hey blue 49, great metalwork! I think I'll buy mine, and move my fan closer to the radiator. It's about an inch and a half from the radiator now. I think the shroud is the way to go. Thanks again, Rod
