Ok, I just got this e-mail from them, as much as the time lost sucks, they are making up for more than the materials used here. Makes me feel alot better about things. I still won't be buying anymore of their flake though!

"We have tested the Clear Flake and found that it does not melt with any Automotive Solvents we have. I do not know why your application went on so rough, but in our test we found that Crystal Clear Polyester Flake does not have a very high sparkle effect over white base and adding more flake to the base we began to see similar roughness. It does have more effect over dark colors. The Polyester Material is the same as used on all Flakes. I am sorry your project didn’t turn out as expected.

As a help to you we will provide the following materials.

2 quarts DP48LF White Sealer with Hardener

3 quarts DBC Bright White Basecoat.

2 quarts DBC500 Mid Coat Clear.

3 quarts DC3010 Clear and Hardener

    2 gallons DT Reducer

I have also provided a spray out we just did of Diamond Crystal Pearl over White, I am sure this sparkle effect is what you were expecting. Diamond Crystal actually has a higher reflectivity in sunlight than most flakes and has a great effect over white. We have provided a 4 ounce bottle for you to use if you choose.

Everything is going out UPS today so you can finish your project as soon as possible.

    Thanks

    Kustom Shop Support Team"

This is better service than I've gotten with most places that I've had issues with when ordering things. They could've been like mooneyes and charged me twice, and never shipped me the stuff becuase it didn't really exist!

NICE looks like they have your back with product. Thats good.

look dude... I just FEEL for ya... thats why I'm getting wound up haha....

I've watched you do the school thing and go from learning to trying to get some jobs under your belt... like your ad on the jockey journal - (btw thats crazy)

its a double edged blade you walk... trying to offer up cheap paint jobs for experience yet make money and "make it"... by getting some work out there.

the cheap paint job thing only works for a while... I hope to see you get a shop off the ground on your own... I was in your shoes about ten years ago. I know exactly what its like.

The problem with this is that the guys that want the cheap paint never come back when it turns "expensive"... oh well... Its a portfolio and experience your trying to build.

You learn by doing... and by mistakes... it really sucks when its not your fault and it falls on the product. IT REALLY SUCKS when your giving someone a deal and have to redo it again... and again untill its PERFECT.

Someday you can just stick to a labor rate and trust me... it'll work. Once you get to that point dont ever look back... and redo's dont hurt so bad. Charge family and friends double...

    Keep it UP yo-
and stand up for your paint slingin ass... haha

HOLY FUCKSTICKS quick lets sue the assholes!!! they didn't pay for his whole paint job...sheesh! :D

Where is Johhny Cochran and Flea Bailey!!!!

it is good to see that they are trying to help you. now if some quick mouthed slow brained dickheads would stop flapping the mouths about lawsuits life would have been grand.

It only seemed like a while ago, the desire to punish someone usually involved "I will kick your ass!", now it is "I will sue your ass!"

I deal with enough shit like this, and getting a vendor to come and fix a problem can be a pain in the ass. But only very rarely do i actually get mad. Lots of frustration though.

Sorry that the paint job went to shit. Good luck on getting it fixed.

And never to business with family or friends. Cant kill family, and Friends become fiends all to quickly...Tuck is so very right on that one!!

Yeah I'M a dickhead 'cause I'm FUCKING tired of getting walked over by everyone & *eating* others' mistakes!!! The guy said he had a lawyer in the family - I simply said I would have him call them. What the fuck is your problem? Have I ever sued anyone? No. Why? Because I'm poor & don't have any lawyers in the family. The times I *should* have sued (or more to the point *should* have been *able* to sue) - such as in the state farm case - the laywers I talked to said that I had a *damn good* case but that state fart would drag it out for at least ten years & they weren't interested in taking the case. State farm wins again by INTIMIDATION!!! Tell me that's NOT a protection racket from the insurance cartel.

  5. Wow. If their above statement about "not melting in any solvent " they have were true, they SHOULD be telling you to go piss up a rope
That either means they're 1) lying thru their teeth, or 2)head and shoulders above everybody in customer service.
I personally would give them another chance---sounds like a real attempt at making things right.
Still doesn't get your roof prepped for a re-do :(

We idiots who choose to work in this field must always realize---we're working with CHEMICALS.

Just for curiosity, have you mixed a little flake in Dixie cups with each individual product(clear, catalyst, reducer) just to see which one dissolved the flake?
All aside, I feel for ya dude.

There are times and places for litigation, i just felt overcome as in many of the threads that have come up in regards with product complaints there are some people who seem to think that threating to sue is the only awnser. It was not directed at you personally, but as a general statement.

Litigation fucks shit up, very rarely does it help. This county graduates so many attournys, becuase it is a good way to make money. (i am not going any further on that one)

I work for an engineering firm. There are so many variables that go into a problem and that need to be taken into account in the solution. And fucking lawyers aint one of 'em.

Communication is very important, bitching about it is best saved until afterwards. The HAMB is the greatest tool i have come across to fix something. If i had a place like the HAMB where i could go and discuss a problem with a brand new vapor recovery system at a fuel station, i would have the problem eradicated a long time ago.

The HAMB helps, which is what i think Ryan intends it to do.

I guess i am just full of piss and vinegar. But don't put sugar in my coffee cause i am already too damn sweet.

I am wondering the same thing. Did you experiment with the flakes and did they dissolve? Curious if the company's response is correct or b.s. If they are being straight with you, looks like good customer service rather than the usual type of servicing that I get. Neal

I don't know anything about paint, but I used to work in customer service. Sounds like they're at least trying to do the right thing. Sorry to hear about your paint, and good luck with the re-do.

We had some flake do the same thing not to long ago. It was the old skool flake and we were just trying it out on something small so no big deal. We contacted old skool and they sent us some more flake. I normally use HOK flake but the local paint store wanted me to try some of the old skool. I think i'll stick with HOK. Sorry to hear about your problem, no matter what they send you it still doesn't help sanding and prepping your roof again. At least they are trying to help though.

P.S. The flake jobs i have been seeing on here look very nice that you did.

Don't think that they won't work with you. (Although don't plan on them doing so.) We just ordered an Atlas transfer case for a 4x4 Willys in our shop. When we got it, found that the splines were too long and would bottom out before the case mated up to the trans. Here they didn't built it for the 5 speed auto that we have, it was for the four speed. They replaced the part, paid for shipping both ways and paid us for 4 hours of labor. I'm sorry, but being nice to some of these companies doesn't work. You have to go after what you are owed. In our case it paid off.

  11. Did the experiment work out?

Anyone use Roth Flake or Old School Flake with good/bad results?
