Well if there is anybody that is visiting or living on Oahu, i'am always up to check out any car scene and/or talk story about cars, just PM and let me know... but yeah the wendys is the only thing around really and they are full of themselves... its hard to talk to them and they just stare at the haole, me..lol. So if i go down tonight i think i will dragggass and let the titanium dance and see if i piss people off or get some old timers to say that was awesome.
A Drag Strip with no bleachers? Just like the early days when it was primarily participents? I've got "goose" bumps.
Tom take HWY 2 North and exit at Campbell Field Industrial Park,You will cross back over the HWY and come to a traffic light, continue straight Dragstrip is on your left. Worked on the island for 20+ years and know where a bunch of front engine dragster are located there that were shipped over years ago during the time period I was around Erine Hashim of M&H Racemasters here in Bakersfield. even when you're takin a break, you dont take a break! cool pics Ryan. really dig the centerline POV. thanks bossman
I think your meaning H-1 to campbell field industrial park, taking H-2 will bring you to mililani /north shore...
Do you know if there is an active raceway on the island of Maui? Got a wedding to go to in May and it would be great to see some racing while there
There was one on the way out to Kihea (right off the main Hwy) I think it was called something like Maui raceway park?? or something like that? I'll be on that island the week of march 1st.I can tell you for sure if someone hasnt already by then.
My father hit that drag strip a couple years ago when he was on vacation......they were running, he said there were a few cool cars running, I remember him saying something about an A coupe that was cool.
I've been to four drag strips in Hawaii. Sorry to hear the one on Oahu (http://hrpdragracing.com/_) is closing March 31st- ithe circle track next to it closing too! The ones on Kauai and the Big Island are both next to dumps and the one on Maui is in the valley - it was the main airport many years ago - left over from WW2. It runs on a generator and if it rains water gets in the underground pipes and can kill things for the whole weekend. They have a circle track there too. My buddy from Connecticut was over there last week and it's still there but they don't start racing till Feb 17-18. http://www.mrp.org/ Here's a forum to read what's up with the Oahu Motorsports Park: http://forumshawaii.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=25209&start=0&sid=2168cd9f29a11617baef111a528e411b To the comment about Maui only being god for rodding on the 4th of July - not this year - everyone's going to the big island. People from the other islands and from the mainland ship their cars over and cruise around the island for a week. They get a couple hundred cars on a good year. If you're going to Maui PM me and I'll give you a number to call to see what the schedule is with the Maui Classic Cruisers. Peggy Sue's in Kehei is a 50's soda shop where they have cruises (and good burgers too) check out the pics of island cars. Dennis
Welcome Home, Ryan! Those pics & the others you've posted are great! I can see Hawaii is yet another place I need to visit after I retire!
