Good to find this group. My high school ride was a 55 Sunliner. The new one was in storage for 38 years. A friend knew of it and managed to buy it from the guys estate. He decided his other project was too much to have another so he offered it to me. 103, 000 one owner miles. It need some floor pan rust repair and some qtr patch panels. It runs and drives and the top works well. I am excited to have it, but not sure what direction it will go. Somewhat of a resto rod I think. Here it sees daylight for the first time in 38 years. Last oicture is how it set today.
Thanks for the comments. It won't stay as it is, I'm not a patina guy. If it had decent paint all over and no scratches and rusty qtrs., maybe, but not the way it is. It will get a strong frame on refurbishment with mechanical updates for todays traffic. Replace interior with stock stuff although may change to buckets for front seats if I can find something that looks period.
Awesome ride, well preserved. The question we all wanna know, with a resto rod, ford or chevy powerplant?
Y block with an aod trans or 302 with an aod. I am not opposed to Chevy [got one in my 40] but I will keep it Ford. The y block runs good, but has 103,000 miles on it so it is not likely to last. So most likely the answer is 302 Ford.
That car's got some awesome potential.....congrats on the find. What you have is one of my favorite cars. Wish I was young enough to do a second car....I'd be looking for one like yours, or a 2 dr hdtp.. Funny, you mentioned it was the same as your high school ride...I've got a friend here in Texas that just bought a '55 2 dr because it matched his hs ride! I'm very happy to hear you're keeping it Ford. Here's a link to some inspiration for ya...although it's a '56 hdtp, it's one of the best I've seen...(I do take exception to some of the statements the owner made however...mainly the one about "I did everything myself"...then goes on to talk about things shops did for him. It bugs me he said it was "'56 on the outside, all Mustang inside and underneath"...it's on the '56 frame!) https://www.youtube.com/embed/X1Wrq4HyDxs
