Where's the best pace to get lead body filler?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by phatboy, Feb 10, 2006.

  1. Anyone know where to get it other than eastwood? Which works best, 90/10 or 70/30? How many of you still use it ? Thanks

I actually have the eastwood kit, and the video on how to do it. It wound up being better for me to use margl*** and bondo because of the amount of sculpting I needed to do on my chop. If you would be interested in it, drop me a PM.

I use the 70/30. I've always gotten mine from Eastwood, although there must be someplace cheaper. I love working with the lead. It's sort of like welding - the more you do, the better you get at it.

The Last place I purchased a bunch from was Senik Paint in Costa Mesa California.

I don't remember how their prices compared with Eastwood and what I purchased back then was 70/30

    Hey,

70/30 has been an industry standard for as long as I can remember.
The 50/50 is a little fluid for vertical work, but is/was available from
    plumbing supply houses.

Mercury Metals in los Angeles use to sell it at a good price. Today I
buy it at swaps and garage sales.

I wouldn't walk across the street ta piss on Eastwood if it was on fire,
    personally!

    Hey,
It's like this: body solder is composed of 30 percent tin and 70 percent
lead. Plumbing/general purpose solder is composed of 50 percent tin and
50 percent lead. 30/70 melts at 'bout 500 degrees, 50/50 melts @ 'bout
420 degrees. It's that larger window of workability, where the solder is in
a plastic, not fluid state, that you're after, especially when learnin'.
Ya may be able to use 50/50 if the panel you're leading can be placed
    on a bench, or horizontal.
