I'm installing a (Year 1975) 350 motor with a 350 auto trans into my 1937 Nash what would be an all around differential the would fit the Nash ? (i'm not drag racing just normal driving)
    Thanks

Measure the dimensions on your existing rear end, you need the distance from pin to pin on the spring perches and the distance from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. There are charts on this Forum and on www.carnut.com that lists all of the popular axles.
You also need to consider how the parking brakes will adapt to the Nash and what gear ratios are available. The easiest thing to change will be to weld on new spring perches to match your existing springs.

what aaggie said---every word. Measure wheel mounting surface to WMS for openers---I got lucky on the 57/58 9- inch Fords. Just right for the '40 and my wheel backspacing.

A friend had a '36 Nash that he used an 8" ford axle (mustang II I think?) in, width worked out fine but he was using an 8" wheel so if you are going narrower you need to do some measuring. The axle is only a 4 stud so was re-drilled to take 5 studs. He used a 4 bar and fabricated a crossmember and used coilover shocks.

Something to consider....fit the actual wheels and tires you will be using in the wheel wells, making sure they clear everything, and then measure between the wheel mounting surface. Use this info to help determine your axle choice. Seen it a few times, the "mock-up" rollers fit great; but when the final wheels and tire choice was made they wouldn't fit.

My Dad built a 41 Nash back in the late 70's/early 80's and used a 9 inch out of a 63 Galaxie. It bolted right in, and ran 235/70/15 on a 7" wheel on it. The 37 is probably narrower though.....

Mine has a Chevy 12 bolt out of a 1980 truck that is about an inch too wide. I offset each wheel by 1/2", so it works. I have a Ford 9" that is 2" narrower, but I will have to lose the leaf springs and go to a 4-link to make it work. Time and money....
