How do you tell a F1 steering box from a F100 box? Is the output shaft the same dia.?

Measuring my F1 output shaft, it has a 7/8" thread and 1" or 1-1/16" spline.
I think F100 are bigger. Maybe somebody will answer that.

don't quote me on this but (i think) the F1 has a fully splinned shaft and and a nut to hold the arm on. and the F100 only has 1/4 of splinned on the shaft and the arm is clamped on. and the shaft is a little bigger the later ones like 59 are even bigger, the whole box is bigger.

F-1 pitman arm is splined and takes a big sector shaft nut.

F-100 takes a pinch bolt and no sector nut.

I may be a bit crazy here, but I have what I think is an F100 box and it seems to differ from an F1 box in that the steering column comes in on the top half of the gear. The F1 boxes seem to come in lower. Is that true?? I will try and post some pics to illustrate. In the end I think an F1 box would be easier to package because of this.

Here are the pics to back up what I am talkin' about...first pic(s) is my F100 and the second is a '32 with an F1.

That's true - that's the big difference from a packaging point of view. Some cars work well with one vs the other...
