For three years between 1987 and July 25, 1990 Lee McCullough and his crew put on a great cruise nite at Johnie's Broiler. I started going in 1989 and soon picked up and got running a 1956 Ford Club Sedan. The cruise nite era was a great experience for me and I met so many cool people...a magic time. I got my car running in Sept, 1989 and by a strange quirk of fate, the engine failed on the ride home from the last Harvey's Cruise Nite. I never did get it going again, but if it happened now I would have been more dedicated to keeping it going. As for the cruise nite, Lee seemed frustrated with the property's upkeep, particularly the bathrooms, but there were probably other reasons he ended the cruise nite as well that I wasn't privy too. It's so great to see the property back to where it should be and regular wed cruising taking place again. July 25, 1990 was Lee's last Harvey's Cruise Nite. The article shown here I wrote and was published several months later. Dedicated in memory of Lee, Harvey and Minnie Ortner, Ron Ray and my uncle Cameron Bailey, the man who first told me about the cruise nite.

Have updated this thread with captions on the pics and the weekly cruise flyer. Thanks Kevin, I'm sure we must have crossed paths back in the day.

Bump. The final Cruise Nite was 30 Years ago tonight, 7/25/1990. I recently found this video , someone captured an entire night and edited it. This is exactly like it was. Sept 1989.

Boy my life was totally different, but so much the same. Nearly 10 yrs after that last cruise night we filmed the Beach Boys movie there. Nearly 10 yrs afters that we were getting ready for BBBB re-opening. Now 11 yrs after that I’ve kept an eye on it and even throughout this pandemic, I’m trying to make sure Harvey’s Broiler survives this. Thx 4 the video, I see my 30 Chopped Closed Cab under the front side of the canopy that “last Harvey’s Cruise Nite”, Good memories!!!!! 11D470AC-3B20-4905-95EF-F2F5EACA9205.jpeg
