I'm getting back to work on it. The car has a B&M Z Gate shifter hooked to a THM 350 transmission The neutral safety switch "switch" is there, but it was never wired by the PO. It works checking it with a continuity tester. It's a simple ON/OFF switch that is controlled by the position of the shift lever so it'll start in P or N. I've pulled the ignition switch. Refer to the pictures. I've got a BATT terminal, an IGN terminal, a ST terminal (solenoid) and an ACC terminal. You can see a bunch of wires on the BATT terminal, one wire on the ST terminal, one on the ACC terminal, and one on the IGN terminal. How do I wire this switch? Do I simply "break" the solenoid wire and wire the switch "between" the wires? I'm electrically challenged. TIA Chuck
yes, you break the SOL wire and connect the ends to the C and NO terminals on the shifter switch. make sure the switch is in the correct position to act as a neutral switch...not as a back up light switch..
Thanks, Squirrel. Worked like a charm. I rigged up the wiring with alligator clips and fired it up. My concern was that when I "broke" the solenoid wire, I wouldn't get engine electrical power when I shifted to R, D, 2, or 1 since the switch was open, but everything works. Now, back to work on the final wiring.
