My dad bought a Ford dealership in Waterbury VT in 1963 , and we went drag racing . It started with a 1961 Galaxy 390-401 HP , then a '63 1/2 Galaxy fastback 427 ,and then the Thunderbolt 427-530 HP . We raced mostly at Milton Drag Strip in VT , but also Fonda NY, Conn. Dragway , Napierville, Que. , Sanair, Que. My shining moment was a tight bracket race win in Milton against Cha Cha Muldowney when she was driving a Mopar 426 . Cha Cha was from Glens Falls , NY and made many appearances at Milton . My best ET with the '61 Galaxy was 12.88 @ 109 . Not bad for a car that was a daily driver in the 60's . Love to hear from anyone that remembers those good old days !!
Bob, I am David Reed, Cl*** of 1965, Vt. Tech, Mechanical Technology Major. I first met your dad in Bellows Falls, Vt at Bernie's Esso on Rte 5. He was driving the yellow Ford Galaxy and flat towing the blue roadster street rod. I remember you having the lightweight 1963 1/2 Galaxy on campus and then the Thunderbolt as well. You guys also had a Red 289 Griffith, right? I remember seeing Shirley Muldowney at Milton first in a Corvette Stingray and then the Mopar factory super stocker. Do you recall Bob Boynton at Milton with his black '63 1/2 Galaxy fastback? I am in Wallingford, CT since 1970 and now have a transmission shop. It is a niche business which specializes in standard shift only. I am anxious to have you reply. E-mail address is reed0380@hotmail.com. Phone is 203-265-6888.
