Jake has long been near the top of my personal hot rod hero list, since before the '29 turned ito a RPU. Right up there with: Pete,P-wood, Dan woods, Bud Bryan , Bob Bauder, Basketcase, Pat G. ,Buffalo Thelan,Joe Mac,Senter,Dave Simard, Andy Southhard,Tex and Brizo to name a few! Long live the "Early Times" and "Prowlers".

Here's Jake just hanging at ElMo. IMG_5539.JPG

Many of his builds have seen so many more miles than most "Garage Queen Street Rods".

Ever since he joined R&C at Bud's urging, we as Hot Rodders really were treated to "How To Tech" at its best and the most memorable Garage Scenes ever along with IMHO, The BEST R&C issue ever!!!!!! IMG_8853.PNG

The Jitney Man has done many things that others only dream of, has made hot rod history at times when we really needed it and has lived a pretty damn Kool life.

I miss the times when we'd just go grab a bite to eat @ "The Pie n Burger" or any of the many "mezcun" restaurants that were around here at one time.

I'm glad that I had the opportunity to observe him in action as it's better than a ZZ TOP concert ;).

    Rock on Jitney Man!!!!!!!

Pretty Kool shot. That captures his backyard in TC. Sadly none of this is there anymore, Jake sold his place when he bought up the hill in AV, and the house was dozed for a mini mansion along with the house next door where Jake used to go swimming.

Does he ever close that driver door in the tub???;) :).:).
Just saw him yesterday at Pete's memorial, just said hello.
If you've seen Jake's 28 Panel you'll notice a water transfer decal on the back doors window. It's of Dylan ,it's very prophetic as "The Times They Are A Changing".

Bud, I just finished the post on Jake. Some of the photos of magazine covers really hark back to when I first contracted the "disease". Damn, I never realized you had been close to Jake. I was so fortunate to see him at El Mo in May last year. He had Joey Angelo from Bobby Walden's shop with him. We sat and ********ted for quite a while at the snack bar, and it is just like you and everyone one the HAMB said. He was just a regular guy drinking a Coke and watching the cars. It was most memorable. Hey, I hope the rains are not endangering you or your stable. Tell Sharon hello, and will be chatting with you right here. Gary and Joyce

What a great thread and trip down memory lane! These guys set the hook in me.

At one time, there was a poster for sale of this shot, but without the lettering. Anyone have one for sale?

    Here's Jake & Joey here,
IMG_9205.PNG Tim Sutton shooting our Jalops the same day you saw him there, probably about an hour after you shared a conversation.
Tim showed me that Joey's a talented fellow. Ya oughta see what he can do with a banana. I deleted my pic as this is a family friendly site ;).
Was a great day!!!! Too bad I missed you there.
The rain is coming down, El Nino is a year late, but here, so hopefully the drought will be gone....
We live in the flat lands, Beautiful Temple City-Former home of "The Hair Pair" and the California Kid.
Both Sharon and are staying dry, the roadsters on the other hand are cold but covered. ;).
Sending a great big Hello to both you and Joyce!

Anyone have a current picture of Jake's 28/29 panel delivery? He's had it a long time.

The pic of Jake's Sprinter is pretty Kool as is Dusty the dog.... rest her doggie soul. The Sprinter went to Jim Fitzpatrick who also lived in TC and now lives in Glendora.
The upper shot of the panel is at our Outriders Picnic. The lower one must be around 1988. Since it's before he redid it as he sold the Cracker Box to Ken Kennedy around Aug.
Both stellar builds!!!!!! That P/U is timeless.
I never tire of seeing it.

  20. You're right Kevin, it was at your clubs great picnic. Jake lived by me in Compton, he on Lime st. and me on Harris ave. We talk about it occasionally, even though we really don't know each other and he's older than me....nice guy to talk too....

I like all of Jake`s cars , I wasn`t sure of the truck grill on the 34 at first ,. I dig it now. It really works with the overall look of the car. The cover of Rod and Custom with the P&J cars is my all time favorite.

Great stuff! I love seeing these old photos. Especially the ones showing Jake's shop. I see his panel sitting behind the NieKamp roadster too.

Hey Mickelson I was at breakfast with Jake on Monday and I showed him your pics, he was curious where you got these from. He told me the pic of him and his tub on Pismo Beach is his all time favorite.
