Thought i would start a post about what has been taking up room in my garage for the longest time. Back in 1995 I got the truck for $600 from a friend. Drove her home as a 1952 3/4 ton 1424 series.

After pulling serial numbers I found out it had a 1955 235 in it. After driving it around for a few months for ****s and giggles around the neighborhood the dismantling started. Took it right down to the ch***is with the intention of just reusing all the bits and keeping it a 3/4 ton.

After having it apart i decided due to its smashed up box and enormous size shrinking it was in order. I got a 1949 3100 ch***is from a farmer for $50 and he even delivered it via 45 trailer drive to my doorstep. I think he was so happy to get rid of it the $50 sounded good to him. A case of beer later with another guy my dad knew I had it blasted and later that day fully painted.

Motor was fully dis***embled and set out for a rebuild. The only things reused was the crank, block ,head and valve rockers. New cam, pistons, rods valves, oil pump, bla bla bla cost me $1300 from a garage I was told to go to by other guys. Here is my rebuilt baby on the 49 1/2 ton ch***is for the first time. Also testing the rebuilt 3 speed trans i got to go from 3 in the tree to 3 on the floor.

After that a disk brake kit was added to the front using a kit from Heavy Chevy. Made myself a booster bracket to hold a mustang booster and master cylinder in the original brake location. Never was a fan of it so i tossed it and ended up replacing it as you will read about later.

After the disk brakes and the addition of a new rear end the truck sat for about 4 years and was hardly touched until I found a Edelbrock dual intake. After installing it the truck sat like this for about another 8 years with the odd thing being adder here and there. brake lines were done up from scratch and other items taken care of.

Now many years later some sort of drive has hit me and i want thing thing on the road. Over the years I have been buying gobs of stuff for the truck and it just sits in boxes in the garage. The electrical was changed over to 12v as you can see by the alternator, also a new proper power booster and master cylinder kit was installed. I started off this spring with installing the Fenton headers.

I also rebuilt the leaking throttle shafts on the old single Rochester carbs. The rebuild stopped the leaking and was a easy fix. here is the link to the little post i did about the rebuild.

After the carb repair it was time to do something with the exhaust. I went with Dual Flowmaster Delta 50 series mufflers and a Flowmaster exhaust kit. The kit worked out perfectly and i even had extra bits when i was done. It took a while to figure how to run the exhaust and get it to fit right. Remember the kit is just a generic V8 kit i used and made fit in the driveway. I think it turned out awesome!!!

After the exhaust I moved to the tilt column I got from Ididit. I want to stay with the stock non power steering setup but have the nice look of tilt and integrated signals. It is the universal column they sell and sure is a nice unit.

This is the rough install prior to the steering box modification. You can also see the wiring being installed so i can run the truck properly and take pictures of my install so its easy to tear out and reinstall after paint.

I cut the existing sheering shaft housing right down to the steering box and installed a new bearing.

Then cut down the existing steering shaft so the correct amount sticks out to mate with the new u joint and column. The end of the shaft was then filed down to suit the DD connection to the u joint.

After the steering i added a few things to the motor. New fuel lines, plugs, chrome and a solid state distributor pickup. I also started to fiddle with the dual carb setup due to it giving me grief.

It was giving me so much grief i opted to say goodby to the Rochesters and invite some new friends to play.

Nice work, glad your using the six for power. Will you be adding heat shields for the master cylinder?

I was trying to find some but no luck yet. I will also install them if possible between the rear gas tank and exhaust.
