I've been working on my project 51 pickup for a month now and am finally ready to reinstall the hood with new brackets. However after numerous failed attempts and what seems to be a lack of resources online I am at a loss for how to do this correctly. Any members here have experience with this or tips?
    Thanks

Sadly, I can't even get to the alignment portion yet. There are 3 hinges and I can only get one set to attatch to the hood at a time. Either the hinges that attatch to the body to the hood or the spring off the firewall to hook to the hood.

Your spring hinges are backwards. They need to be switched from side to side.

Thanks for all the input guys, I switched around the spring hinges and everything fits much better. Only issue now is the hood won't close? Is this just a simple case of over tightening the bolts or am I missing something? The hood closes fine without the spring hinges installed, however once they are installed the hood only stays open and will not close.

Yep, probably over tightened. These things are a pain to adjust. I had to leave the bolts a little loose in order for them to actually move.

Inked Monkey thanks for the input after a little tinkering everything is now sitting as it should.

You are using the factory shoulder bolts where they bolt to the hood? An yes they are a pain to adjust....

Those trucks never had the best fitting doors and hoods right off the factory line when new. It takes work to get a good fit..

  14. ...you should be using shoulder bolts on the 4 hinge bolts, before you close the hood, make sure the latch panel on top of your grille where the bullet goes into is loose and moved all the way forward; if it's too far back, your hood may not open because the opening handle won't pull the latch far enuf.
...my hood fit fine without the springs hooked up, with the springs hooked up the rear of the hood raised up a half inch or more;..I decided to leave the springs off and made a hood prop that folds down across the upper radiator framework, works great.
