I am swaping out the hydro in my 55 Olds for a 700r4 using a adapter from Bensteins. My question is, since I am losing the rear, side motor/****** mounts and the front motor mount is a center mount. When I put the 700 in there and it only has a center mount am I going to have problems with the motor trying to tip from side to side when accelerating? Should I fab up a center crossmember too and make side mounts like the factory ones were? There are two holes in the bottom of the belhousing adapter that I could make two bisket style mounts off of if needed. I know I have seen some straight sixes that only have center mounts on the motor and the ****** but I didn't know if I can get away with it on a V8. Thanks, Dustin.
Yes, definitely. You need to make a more positive engine retention system than that with any engine, but Olds V8s are notoriously torquey. Torque-straps are really ugly though. Just find another way to mount it if you can.
Thanks guys, that is what I figured, fabing up some side mounts won't be a problem, just thought I would ask.
I know this is for newer Olds applications but might give you an idea for using an engine plate. Hope it helps. http://realoldspower.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14377&highlight=motor+plate good luck
I made up some side mounts for my 394 and used the single front mount. Your idea to pick up holes in the adaptor sounds good to me. David
I would have to agree, when I did my 55 Olds with the SBC I used modified 57 Chevy mounts and a single mount for the TH350...was smooth when it was running, didnt lurch or bounce around.
