Also may be marketed as a "Speedy Sleeve".

That's a lot of oil for just going in/out of the garage. Rear main seal? Oil pressure sending unit? Valve cover gaskets? Rear intake gasket? Crank hub? To me, those drips say something under pressure. In my case, many years ago, after replacing the rear main seal and pan gasket TWICE, it turned out to be a ****ed soft plug at the rear cam journal on the back of the block. Before tearing into it again, clean everything up, and look directly underneath for where the leak might be coming from. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

After replacing the oil pan gasket (again) it still drips a bit under the timing cover. I'll retorque the bolts after it cools down. Also, the 283 balancer is pressed in, no bolt.

There are several places it could be leaking. You have the front cover to engine block, front cover to harmonic damper, and front cover to oil pan seals, all right there. The hard part is figuring out which it is. Or you can pay somebody to shotgun parts at it and hope.

Clean everything real good. Start it up, to get the system under pressure, and watch to see where the leak is coming from. I've read that throwing some flour on the engine can help pinpoint the leak, if it's from around a gasket.

My OT daily driver started leaking around the balancer. That was easily fixed with a sleeve repair kit. My hot rod SBC seems to be leaking at the front cover to pan seal, so it's going to get one of the one piece pan gaskets when I get a chance to drop the pan. I don't yet know if I need the "thick" or "thin" gasket for it, and fixing the brakes on my DD is currently a higher priority problem.

My SBC is from a 74 Chevelle, but was built in 73 going by the stampings, but both the pan and timing cover are aftermarket chrome parts, unknown source, so I can't go by what would have been stock.

Aftermarket pan is most likely thick pan seal , do yourself a favor and get the 1 piece pn gaskt . , really easy & leak free..

This will sound "unprofessional" to most but you can use it as a diagnostic tool .... clean [w/brakeclean] or suitable solvent , the area where the frt. pan seal contacts the pan , use whatever to clean completely , then take some RTV & force it into that area[force it in the best you can] , let it cure overnite . If this stops the leak , it's probably the timing cover . Look at the Z channel, it's spot welded to the cover, oil can get between the channel & the cover , if the frt. pan seal is not a tight fit against the inside of the cover lower lip , it will leak...especially an after market cover.

i just went through that with my car. new one piece seal, newer oil pan and it still leaked. i took the pan down and cut a thin strip of thick gasket material to fit inside the groove and put it back together......dry as a bone.

I'd replaced the gasket with another 4 piece, still leaked, then got a new pan because the crank was hitting the pan and a 4 piece with a good smear of sealant on the timing cover. Still leaked. Switched to a 1 piece with no sealant and so far it's leaking the LEAST it has. Haven't had a chance to retorque the bolts because it's not at my house, but it's not leaving a trail when I back it in and out of the garage.

see if you can move the gasket with a screw driver. it shouldn't move.

As mentioned earlier, the top front motor mount hole by the fuel pump is plugged with a bolt and washer. It has been suggested to me that I plug all 4 of the front motor mount holes. I might just do it as a precaution. What do you guys think?

Tb33anda3rd, yeah, don't wanna hit the pushrod, but there's already one in the top hole.
