Customs Inspections

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by coololdcars, Aug 10, 2015.

  1. I recently bought a mild cruiser 1955 Ford in Ohio, got all the paper work, docs, notarized ect. DMV in NC took everything ok and gave me a registration and plates but I still have to take it to an inspector to verify numbers????? Is that all the check for??? Or do the ckeck safety stuff too???

    from Missouri

If its like in Mo they just check ID and OD

  3. Odometer.

Here you can do a numbers check at an vehicle inspection site (as in garage). The bike shop does all mine. LOL Usually it is a case of, "OK Benno where are the numbers on this one and are they clean?"

  4. Ohhh snap....what if the odometer doesn't match....I hate these NC regulations. All clear paperwork from Ohio, they gave me a registration and plate here in NC, but I still have to have it looked at to get the title!!!

The DMV here in NC is only going to check for numbers matching the ones on the title. No safety inspection, and none required on anything over about 30 or 35 yrs old. Should be a DMV inspection office in Charlotte that will cover the Belmont area. They may get an odometer reading and turn it in to Raleigh to be added to the title, but not sure on that.

  6. Kentucky checks the vin and the lights and horn. They didn't look at e-brake, neutral switch or license plate light (nsra did)

  7. They have a place in Gastonia, its only open from 8 to 10 AM or something like that.

  8. I just been reading up on these cars and it says the vin tag should be on the drivers door post below the dog leg. Mines on the door?????

  9. Coololdcars If you do go to the Gastonia DMV License & Theft office on Club Dr , they are only open in the mornings ,so go early..have all your paperwork with you and Do Not ( I repeat..DO NOT) wander around the office looking for help...They get real pissed (even more than normal!!... and they are armed !!!).. Stay in the waiting room..when they decide to , they will come out and get you..... Be nice , an attitude will cause major problems..
They only do "field " inspections on certain days...
Just my $0.02 worth of past experience

They only check vin plate number to title vin... An they only check them on out of state cars.. Or that has been my experience with NC Dmv...

they've recently changed...I just bought a car in N.C. with a N.C. title and still have to go get numbers checked before they will issue title...already have plates...no inspection for vehicles 35 and older...
