When it gets closer we should plan a HAMB meet-up again, but this time everyone should sport a name tag....saying that I a hamb'er and your screen name and poss you real first name, just a thought. ;)

GO!!! You won't regret it. I've been twice...1993 (with Hotrod Liz in her T-bucket) and 2002 with my wife in our chopped '48 Chevy pickup. Well worth the trip, my wife and I drove almost 3000 miles round trip for it.

Yes, I agree with everyone, it's a great show. I've been many times. I have also gone to the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green the last two years and I'm heading to Bowling Green again this year.

The shows are nite and day difference. Like others have said the BTTF's is over 10,000 cars which are parked and kruzn thee nicest fairgrounds in the country. BTTF's is geared toward more of the streetrod and kustom crowd. The HRR is 2,000 cars cruzn a rolling, treed meadow like piece of property with far more hot rod type cars.

BTTF's is VERY congrested both inside the fairgrounds and outside. In fact, Sneeling, the main drag gets closed down at one end by police and you have to do a major detour to get anywhere south of the fairgrounds including "Porkys" the local hamburger hangout. Police are everywhere in full force including inside the fairgrounds. A HAMB member or two has been known to get evicted from said fairgrounds in the past.;)

The HRR has no cruzn issues what so ever, in fact, most of the people are at the track late into the eveing on Saturday watching the Cracklefest so the town is alittle on the sleepy side. The "host" hotel has the main action at nite with at least one drag car being started up in the huge parking lot and not one sign of police as folks were burning rubber leaving the parking lot.

Folks line up the nite before to get power parking spots at the BTTF's. In fact, if your not an early morning riser your parking out in the back 40. At the HRR doesn't matter what time you arrive there is always a spot. The grounds aren't that big that just about any spot is a good one. You can roll in at noon on Saturday and get a spot in the trees along the river. The Greezy Hubcaps had an AWESOME spot last year with still plenty of room around them for lots more cars. The "PoorBoys" had a spot last year right in the middle and while there were no trees in their area it was centrally located to the swap meet, the vendor area, the drag strip and the pits.

Speaking of vendors, if your going to buy, the vendors at the BTTF's can't be beat. Everyone you can possibly imagine is there. On the other hand, there are fewer vendors at the HRR. The focus at the HRR is racing, pure and simple.

The grand stands at the HRR are covered! Doesn't get any better then watching old funny cars and drag cars from the '60's and 70's making p***es down the strip and when you get tired of that being able to walk OR cruz around the pits to see and talk to everyone. Yeah, you can just pull up in your hot rod to whereever you want and park. Beech Bend Park has plenty of room to move around. The MN fairgrounds on the other hand....well if you want to visit with a friend you'd better walk cuz there's not going to be any room for you to pull your car in by them to chat for awhile UNLESS you both head to the back 40 OR he's holding you a spot with his lawncahir!

There is more of a selection of food at the BTTF's BUT the HRR does a FREE BBQ on Saturday for eveyone there.

The rooms in Bowling Green are cheaper by HALF. Last year I paid less then $50 per nite at the brand new Motel 6 (very nice) and the last year I stayed in Minnapolis at a Super 8 (2003) it was over $100 per nite.

You really should do each of them at some point. BOTH shows have a TON of HAMB folks that attend. Your decision is which one to try first.:D

Wow Denise. Great re-cap. I've never been to the Minnesota event but you nailed Bowling Green. Any event with dragstrip action gets my admittedly biased vote over a non racing venue.

So then...is the infamous 'Fly going to make to Bowling Green? That would be pretty cool.

BTTFs is great. The fairgrounds are second to none, lots of shade and you will probably need it at times. Do BTTFs (10,000 plus cars) and then you have to do the Woodward Dream Cruise, 40,000 cars, no BS. Dont let the website fool you, they dont do a real good job on the website. The WDC is "offically" a 1 day event but it runs the whole week

I tend to agree with you, :D although hopefully I sounded unbias in my side by side comparison.

Now that I know what your car looks like (since seeing it at the HAMB Drags) you can count on me and Big Olds paying you a visit in your pits this year......treats in hand of course.;)

Don't forget Tuck doin burnouts out on Snelling, getting busted right in front of US!(tm) And everybody on the inside of the fence putting money together to pay his ticket. Just to let him go back out and lay flames all over Snelling in the HEX. How about the last ditch effort to do a motor swap in the Bamboo ***** in the middle of the campgrounds. Or Tuck and I stealing each others car in the middle of the night only to run into each other with said 'stolen' cars.
Last year was the first I have missed in 16 years. (I'm 28). I'm not missing it again. GO.

Been there 7 or 8 times, fairgrounds have to be one of the best in the country, lots of curvy tree lined streets. A bit over crowded but there is so much room you can still get around easily if you use the back roads. You don't have to get there at 2am for a great parking place you just have to be a little creative ,they allow parking on the gr***ey mediums and every nook and craney you can imagine We usally get there around 8-9;00 by then the long lines have shrunk and still get good parking places. There is also a pretty good swap meet on sunday if you can stay and a pretty good variety of venders. If you never been I would recomend it. There is a **** load of cars and a variety that you probably will not see at any other show. Gary

Me too. Last year was my first year. I drove over 1,000 miles each way --going and coming -- and it was worth it to me. I plan on going again this coming summer.

last year was my first year going to bttf's as was the first for 4 other guys that i went with. we left winnipeg at 9:30 pm thursday night, we drove all night, there was a 49 ford 4 door, 63 pontiac strato chief, and my brothers 58 austin healy racecar (it was trailered down) we arrived about a hour outside of minniapolis (albertsville) at about 7:30 am, we were cruising along the interstate when my friends rearend locked up, blew up, seized. we pulled it off the interstate into an empty parking lot where we tore apart the rearend, ended up staying in the parking lot for about 6 hours while the car was being fixed. we all got sunburned while baking in the sun. we got a rearend from a junk yard called french lake auto. we were staying at a house about 25 mins from the campgrounds which was good to have but would have loved to stay at the grounds. the whole time there we probably got about 10 hours sleep max. the car show was amazing. we walked and walked until we couldn't anymore, there is no way to see all the cars there.
we will be going back again this year, with some different cars. i think the drive down there was more fun then the show itself!
