I figured I would throw this out to all you Ford parts puzzle makers....

I know some people have used a '37-'40 front spring in the rear...but what about a Model T front in an A rear crossmember?

    Any good?

It's a model T rear spring in an A rear cross member that's been done.

Yes, thanks....curious if you can use a T front...

  4. I don't believe you could do this . The Model T front spring is much flatter than the rear spring which has the curved/raised section in the middle. The rear crossmember is shaped to accommodate the rear spring. I doubt if you could get the front spring to seat into the rear crossmember.

If you had a REALLY BIG clamp you could probably get it to seat in there.

Have you even looked at the two parts? When you do you will see they are not the same shape at all.

Model A front spring is 1.75" wide; Model T front is 1.5" wide.
Model A rear is 2.25" wide, Model T rear is 2" wide.
Rears are 'camel-backed', or 'hooped'. Fronts are mildly curved, nearly flat.
Add that to all of the above.

  9. I'd like to see that

bct and Max Gearhead like this.
  11. 35-40 front spring in the rear,,,,
because the rear axle is narrow& the tires are big and you need a bunch of other stuff to use it. Ideally a flattened 35-40 rear cross member but a 32-34 rear crossmember will work & longer rear spring hangers on the axle & customized rear spring shackles. When that gets mixed in the crossmember needs to go way back to keep the wheel base.

Looks like a T to me. But of course A's are also arched in the middle.

Flat springs don't go into arched cross members. That's pretty straight forward.

  13. Here's one with 36 styled bones/hangers and custom crossmember.
