What material do you use for custom taillights??

I have to build a set of taillights for the Stude. They are super easy...not too big and nice and flat.

I have a sheet of plastic, clear diffuser material to bond to the inside of the lens, but what should a fella use for the lens itself??

I'm thinking the plain old 1/4 red plexigl***, but is there something better??
