I bought a complete '53 Desoto Firedome yesterday thats been setting for God knows how many years, but the motor is complete and not stuck. So I'm in search of speed equipment, namely a intake. I knew that theres not alot out there for these old motors, but there cool looking as hell. I read somewhere that the Dodge red ram intakes could be modified to work, true or false? Also, I'm gonna part out the rest of the car, lots of good stainless trim, back glass, dash. and the bullet grill hasn't a ding in it. It would look killer in a Kustom. I plan on putting the hemi in a '32 pickup, so I'm not gonna need some of this stuff. Anybody interested? Also, I seen Charlie "rip-off" Price at Vintage speed is gonna offer a intake for these motors, although it'd probably take 6 months to get it from him!!

The tall deck Dodge is simular enough to the low deck DeSotos that some aftermarket intakes were made with extra metal in the bolt area were a casting could be drilled for one or the other engine. There were some OEM 4V intakes made for the 291, tend to be rare & expensive.

Yeah, I've been to Hot Hemi's, there here in NC. Really looking for a cast or 4 barrel stocker, log manifolds idle poorly on a street motor.

I just sold a stock 4bbl manifold. I read somewhere that only 10% of them had 4bbls on them, or something like that.

weiand made a 4x2 inline manifold for the low-deck desoto. They are fairly expensive (500 plus). I've seen one 2x2 edmunds for a low deck desoto. Thats all I know of.

I just picked up a 330 Desoto Hemi, I am starting to mock up for a 4-71 blower. I will fab the intake from aluminum, tig weld it together. I think I can run the cooling somewhat like stock, but below the blower. If this works, I may make a 3 or 4 duece manifold for it. I saw one go for 1200 on erape.
Have you considered modifying a duece manifold into a four barrel?

Hey man, I just found this link, but it doesn't have a lot of detail. Maybe the site owner can help you contact whoever made this intake.

let me know if you decide to build extra manifolds. i'm mostly interested in the blower manifold, but i have 3 desoto motors, so i might be a player on a multi carb also. my ph# 478-256-2143

HAMB'er Dickster has a guy that makes 4x2, 6x2, and 8x2 log manifolds for these engines. Might wanna PM Dickster.

Gear Drive Speed and Custom Lakes Headers has multi carb U-fab manifolds for your Desoto. I build 8 stack EFI for your engine using his manifolds. Our computer requires absolutely no tuning.msmbob@yahoo.com

You can use a 2x4 intake with an adapter plate to mount a blower quite easily. Dyers Blowers used to do that for the smaller V6-71 blowers, and I just did it on a 396 for my 69 Camaro. I used a full size blower manifold instead, but the process is the same.

I copyed and pasted this from the Victory Libary site, anybody ever heard of and/or tried this? " Some aftermarket manifolds were made to suit both DeSoto and Dodge hemi motors by making the port runners and bolt bosses larger, finishing the port ID to the smallest dimensions and drilling the bolt pattern differently. The intake port flange angles match (25°). These were made for the 1953-55 DeSoto 276-291 & Dodge 315-325 hemis. Even though the deck height differs between the motors by .84” (the Dodge is taller), the DeSoto intake ports are farther away from each other than the Dodge so that the width across the ports is fairly close. These will be relatively easy to “convert” if originally sold as a Dodge manifold by removing approximately 1/8” from the manifold’s flanges. "
