Here is my dad's other RPU

 

I remember seeing this car around Concord where I went to high school and JC. I never met Dave Dias but I met this car. My girl friend, now wife, used to babysit the Dias children. Unlike most babysitter's boy friends I snuck into the garage to spend quality time with Dave's pickup. It was still in this form then but the drums were chrome and I think it had louvers in the aprons. It has always been a favorite and will always be Dave Dias's roadster pickup. I never touched or drooled on it.

 

Pulledl my RPU out today to take a pic with my neighbors '30 coupe. Pretty cool block we live on!

 

Ever since I went through this thread years ago, I've had the itch for a RPU. Over the years I've been slowly collecting parts for one, buying stuff, panicking because my roadster isn't done so selling stuff, then buying stuff again. I had two 18" wide fives for this at one point but they sold and replenished my roadster funds a lot. Now I've ended up with a '54 Y-block for dirt cheap, a '38 trans, some other early Ford bits and pieces.. It's a good thing I don't have anything other than an one-car garage otherwise I'd have two full-on projects going on at once.

I hold all of you fully responsible for this and expect you guys to continue to influence me with more pictures.

Specifically.. T RPU bodies on A frames with A fenders, perhaps?

 

Once you've had an RPU, nothing else will do!

Oh man, I just gone thru this whole thread and now I'm thinking to throw away the rear quarters for my home built 28A roadster and build it in to a R/P . moma told me that nothing good would come of learnin my letters.......(kidding) But hell there some real inspiration in here....Cheers Colly.

Got all stern with myself after Xmas and decided to put the roadster project on the back burner and concentrate on the 28 Desoto pickup ..... Would be nice to get one project on the road... photos on nzhrm forum>projects>28Desoto pickup. I'm easily distracted and have too many projects, A common problem I understand !!!!!!!

Finally got around to getting a top sewn up for my '29

 

This was at a local swap meet for $8,000. It ran smooth and Mrs W really wanted to take it home. JW

Is it just me or does it seem most RPU's are '27-'34 Fords? You don't see very many '23 T types. I know the real early T's didn't have a metal bed. They were wood but, that shouldn't stop a guy from putting a model A bed on.

 

Or a Model T bed. JW

 

The early ones became those "Kookie" things.

 

jw, yeah you could use a t bed, i just figured you could find an A bed easier.

The T-ster is looking pretty good!!!!!!! Would love to see that one next to the Cyclone Beater.

 

This is my nephew (Ian's) 29 RPU It's on Kelseys now has Cyclone heads and intake that he's hand polishing himself. The Kiwi Konnection Chassis was done about 4 yrs. ago, but of course he's made changes to it and he sidelined it for his dads 30 "lakester" highboy and a 55 Olds Holiday-88 driver.
He's studied business and welding in College and now works full time. He does work to it along with a Bobber and another modified RPU project to mix things up. I don't have any recent pix, this came from a story I wrote about it online several yrs. back.

About, 3 yrs back I did the sub rails,replaced the whole back section of the cab with replacement sheet metal, kept the rear 1/4's so I may take those pieces and a complete 29 roadster cowl that I have and build one for myself with a 153ci Chevy kinda like the RPU version of the 28/29 A-Roadster(s) that Jim (Super Bell) Ewing did in 78-79. That's got to be a little down the line as I have a whole lot of stuff to find for it like original sub rails and inner door structure and all of the hinge hardware latches etc.

Is that a 28/29 grill shell? And has it been shortened any? If so how much?

Thanks Johnny, it is and no it hasn't been cut but the body sits above the frame I little ( I have a filler trim for that)on mine. The shell would need to loose 1 1/2 inches to match yours. JW

 

this is the first time it has looked like a pickup. I started off with some cattle tromped sheet metal . Added some brookville stuff to fill in the gaps. Going to be full fendered but I kinda dig this look with just the splash aprons. I might shorten the box too, I need to stare at it alittle more. before I decide.

 

Paul, I have some old pics, somewhere, of my RPU looking just like that in 1959.

PLEASE, stick with the fenders!!

 

That is looking nice. I'm for full fenders and a full length bed. On road trips the extra space will be good to have.
