Winfield Carbs...anyone running them?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fur biscuit, Feb 14, 2006.

  1. Just to be different, anybody actually running a winfield carb set up?...i need to see something other than a 97!:D

I ran a model V for a while, but it was so worn i out i had to toss it (set it aside).

I the next couple of weeks i am going to be go down to pick up a couple of model M's, i have never dealt with an M so, any help would be most appreciated.

The last Winfields I had on a running car were the two SR sidedrafts on my Riley 4Port. Someday I'll put this early Winfield sidedraft on a T. If you guys haven't seen a barrel throttle this is what they look like. I don't know what model this Winfield is, let me know if you do.:)

  3. model H (side draft version of a model V), if you want a mate for it let me know...(i know where a couple are)

But yours has been modified with a later needle (either M. S. or SR)

Can you do a little explaining as to your SR side drafts, they were either up or down, not side...though I have seen a few conversions to side draft, did you do this yourself? or did you get them that way?

I have run S Winfields for years on dirt track cars. The nice thing about them is that the idle, intermediate, and high speed are all easily adjusted externely. This make it great for different times of the year and al***ude changes. I steek rule die cut the gaskets and offet a rebuild service, let me know. Steve

  7. I HATE YOU!!!!, allow me to put that in a very clear and concise tone :D  :D (If you are the same kat over on ebay)

I cant tell you how many auctions i lost to you back when eGay was still small and SR's went for a buck seventyfive!!! (not 300.00+) and i was in college spending all my lunch money on T speed equipement. You must have one hell of a killer collection of carbs!

But hey, the past is the past, and it is great to see you on the HAMB. I wish you had posted on some of the earlier sprint car threads, and speedster stuff, as i am sure you have some great stories and insight.

    welcome aboard! - Doug

    from Brum...

HAMBer 'The Wrong-Un' has just finished putting his sport coupe together with this motor. It's a Jay Steel-built diamond block dyno'd at approx 100bhp.

No, it's just a filter. The pump is a reworked Model A on a full pressure set up. If you want to know more give www.taylorengine.com a try.

As for the carb, I've only test fired the engine a few times but it seems to run and idle real good. Progress reports will follow in due course.
