Here in Montana we still have some Cool Junkyards. We have Very low humidity here and only about 10"-12" of moisture so its Very Dry and things just don't rust very bad. Also we don't use salt on the roads here. Here are some pictures I took today at one of my favorite yards. Batteries went dead on my camera before I could take all the pictures I wanted. I bought a couple of things I wanted and then left because it was getting too dam hot. There are several thousand rust free cars and trucks in this yard. they run from the late 20s, 30, lots of 40s and 50s and 60s. If you are interested I will post more pictures later. Think I might go to a different one tomorrow.
I could spend days walking through that yard, they would have to send in the blood hounds to find me.
Shhh Cowtown, oh great now everyone knows! I've wandered local yards for no other reason than it was A) "take a walk" or B) strangle the next mouth breather that walked into my office..
Thanks for the pics, great to see that the s****pers don't get into Montana. Next time take a spare battery and YES, post more pics.
Here are a few more. take a look at the old tachs from a couple of big trucks. Be fun to restore those and put in a rod.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ **** mate,we have to travel 20+hrs on a plane just to get near anything like that!!! Some don't know how lucky they are. n[/QUOTE]
Rub it in why don't you.... cool pictures though... Man I wouldn't know how to act in a yard like that.. that "junk" is so much better shape than the "builders" around here...
I have family in Livingston, the yard between there and Bozman? Would like to look on my next trip there.
The red 78 van was rotten 20 years ago here in southeastern Wisconsin. To cool i was out there a few weeks ago in Montana. Me and my buddies couldn't believe the trucks still working and how solid they are.
S****pers got all the good stuff like that around here. I miss being able to wander though a yard, wondering what stories those old vehicles could tell.
tree huggers and s**** prices killed off lots of the old parts places by me including some that were hidden in the woods or small towns . one of my favorites the tree huggers turned them in to the EPA then raised a big stink about it and got it closed down , they crushed them out and then they had to reclaim the land , its now a empty weed choked lot treeless lot .
Dang some of those look really really solid. Now two questions, Do they sell cars out of the yard or just parts? And what do you call "too dang hot"?
Used to have several junkyards in the area that I would frequent...often brought my son with me when he was little, and he had a ball looking at what they used to build.
I need to take a trip and I need a bigger truck to bring just a few things back in. Still a few yards around down here, but not many. -Dave
First of all I call 90 degrees hot here in Montana. I think he will sell whole cars without a problem. He is not cheap, He know what he has and he is always buying more. I don't mind the prices because he is least saving a lot of old iron. I would say he has a couple of thousand cars and trucks and I sure don't have the room to save it or the money. He has had this yard 35-40 years and this how he makes his living. So I say Good For Him! I would rather pay him a fare price rather than give thousands to a body shop to fix rust if You can find one that will do it. Most of them want the Big Deposit up front and then put You vehicle out back and not touch it for years. We have all been there!
I used to know of a local guy who would make a trip out that way and bring back cars to restore at his rod shop. He said they could be sitting on the ground for years and still have only light surface rust on them.
