I have the above 1954 Crestliner Victoria 2 door hardtop and it got hit right on the drivers firewall the windshield and frame weren't affected but the rocker and front door hinges were smashed it pretty good that I need to cut out this section and weld in new piece from a donor car. Can I use a firewall and floor section from another model? Would this be the same as a 1953? Are the fenders unique to the Cresline cars or are others the same?
You should be able to use a firewall section from any 52-54 Ford. The fender will have to be a '54, but off any model.
I thought the 52-54 body's were pretty much the same in A pillar section forward and I found this photo of a 53 and it confirmed my suspicions. HRP My '54 Firewall
thanks for the info guys. here is the car and the repair I have a pretty good idea on how to do it but would like some tips in case I missed something. it may be repaired using the stock metal but I dont think so I think it might be easier just use a piece from a donor car.
Not mine, but a cheap parts car http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/cto/5139002723.html No problem with fit and you can flip some of the parts to pay for a road trip.
Complete with horn ring they can bring $400+ to a restorer that one is much better than this "bargain" http://www.ebay.com/itm/1954-FORD-CRESTLINER-ACCESSORY-K-TYPE-4-SPOKE-1953-STEERING-WHEEL-RAT-ROD-1950-/351484899930?fits=Make:Ford|Model:Crestline&hash=item51d621f25a&vxp=mtr That road trip looking even better?
I had a feeling that steering wheel would be worth having but $400 is pretty nice! Now I really wish I had a truck and a trailer!
What do you guys think about using this replacement panel and fabricating the missing parts? The damage doesnt go very far in towards the center of the car. the brake master cylinder area is fine its mostly the extreme drivers side and up to the windshield. The windshield didnt get damaged and I measured the frame of the windshield and it is nice and even.
If you don't have a truck and trailer you could try this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/social-forums/hamb-relays.183/
@VonMoldy, those toe boards are really nice stampings. I'm replacing floors and rockers in a 1953 right now and the metal is thick and welds nice. They make nice floorboards as well. Building the firewall and cowl side and the support pieces under there would be difficult, but not impossible. I would think a donor would be easier, but those cars all rust at the rockers and outer supports. Good luck.
Thanks for the input. The trouble I am running into if finding a decent priced car that I wont feel bad cutting up that is pretty close. I was really impressed that they have nice stampings and 18g steel and made in USA. The drivers toe board extends up pretty high and I have a shear and a brake so I figured maybe it would be easier. I also have a ford shop manual and it didn't look too difficult but I might be naive.
