Getting a late 1960's Ford rear end narrowed for my roadster. My old wire wheels won't fit over the brake drums so I've been looking at wheel spacers 5 on 5.5 to 5 on 5.5. The spacers are 1.5 inches thick. I think that will do it. Does this sound OK? Thanks
I used a maverick rear with 4 1/2" bolt pattern. I added wheel adapters so I could use my "old" steelies. The adapters are pretty thick like your talking about. I've not had any problems and think you'll find a number of us doing the same thing. tim
A lot of guys here are gonna tell you not to use them. If you have to, buy good quality and make sure the wheel studs do not protrude past the spacer. Any contact with the wheel will cause stress and is the reason for most failures. I have used some in the past with no ill effects. Now, on with the don't do it posts.
You will still need the type that support the inner part of the 35 wires to a later drum, or is that aspect built into the ones you are looking at?
If these are what you need they are also giving another 15% off at the moment.http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Garag...ire-Wheel-Adapters-5-x-5-1-2-Inch,112820.html
Thanks guys. I saw the ones from Speedway for $69 each, but found some on Ebay for 40 bucks a pair that look the same. Heat treated studs, high quality aluminum, yada, yada, yada Prices are all over the place. It's like hearing aids for 7 to 10 grand a pair or go to Costco and get the same thing for just a little under 2 grand.
Gonzales Enterprises AKA The Lug Nut King will make you any width/diameter and bolt pattern spacer you need and they are reasonable.
thats what I did on mine.. bought mine from summit racing.. since they are fairly close I could return them easy.. i think mine are 1.5" and the wheel clears the drum by about 1/8 to 1/16" and i still have to had the wire wheel spacer yet
