This car belongs to a buddy of mine. He used to drive a Semi and he was waiting to be loaded and was reading a Street Rodder magazine when a guy came up to him and said "I have one of those at home in a barn". Then he asked Fat Cat if he would be interested in it. He said "YES".
He went to look at it and they had to move a bunch of hay bales out from around it and he bought it. The guy and his wife had dated in the car. The only thing he has done to it was updated the motor and trans and rearend.
After the guy sold it he decided he might want it back but my friend had done put a ton of sweat into it and didn't want to get rid of it. I believe the guy went out and bought a 40 sedan but I am unsure. He said he didn't realize how expensive these cars were and Fat Cat definitely got a bargain.

WOW ! I have never had a 40 just walk up to me and ask if I wanted it. Fat Cat is one lucky guy.

I'd like to see more of this car. Although those hood pins look like chrome warts on its nose, should have found a neater solution than that.

When it comes to luck I seem to have wandered into the "Elite Crowd " Hope this rubs off somehow.

George I only half agree with you on this. With a shaved hood on a '40, I like frenched single headlights, but not the canted quads. But I agree about the "chrome warts". In the days of the past, I know of more than one incident of hoods popping up on old Fords though. Does a helluva lot of damage!
Have often mulled over in my mind how to put some sort of positive hold down on those hoods in an unobtrusive way, but have yet to come up with anything.

Well, I definitely wont be doing canted quads on my '39, but I too have been mulling over a positive hood latch, as I do plan to fill and peak my hood, so the stock latch will be gone. Nonetheless, I am not dead set against canted quads, just not going to do it on my car. I really like the stock '39 headlights, better than the '40's.

With modern reflectors and the high power bulbs of today, the '39 headlights are way ahead of those of the stock '39, and yes, they do look nice.
