Building a 1950 Chevy pickup will be running 17" rims do to tire sizes available. 8" up front and 8 or wider in rear. I don't mind having to tub bed if needed. Would like input and photos if possible of what others chose for tire sizes front and rear. I'm setting it low but drivable. Wheels, tires and stance seem more often than not to make or brake a project in terms of look and attitude so any insight would be appreciated. have searched and searched to find that 17s are the most popular wheel size for these trucks but can't find much info on what tires guys are running

The right diameter of tires on those is about 27-28" on the front, and 29-30" on the rear. The last one I did was 15" wheels, so you would need to talk to your tire guy about what that translates to on 17s for that outer diameter. Make sure you have some decent sidewall, sport car style "o" ring tires look like crap on old trucks ( I don't care what's popular, they look like crap).

A lot of questions on what you want to do. What front suspension? Bags an option? Is handling the reason for the 8" front wheels? What rear end? What width for the rear end? You really need to know all this if your in the building phase. What wheels do you want to run? What offset is available? Enlighten us as to where your at on the truck. BILL RINALDI

in the weeds - post pics of truck with details, as already mentioned, on suspension, etc. remember that the idea here is to build traditional rides. also, search online: Ejelta.com: tire size calculator & 67-72chevytrucks.com (section for 50's trucks)

15"X6" w/215R65 on front; 255R60 on 15"X8" on back - stock Chevrolet ralleys. TCI MII on the front - CE parallel springs out back - rides & steers great. IMG_2733.JPG

Don't surprise me about this thread with all the "so-called" off topics I see on the HAMB now days. The old HAMB is dead, RIP (and I mean that, sadly)

  12. My 52 GMC. 15x8 rear and 15x7 front. 255/60R15 rear and 215/70R15 front. You can't go bigger on rear without tubbing, I have about 1/4 sidewall clearance. I actually wanted narrower front like 195 or 205, but this is what I have for now. Truck is finished now and driving, but I don't have pic that shows current, this older pic shows the wheels and tires. IMHO 15 inch is best wheel diam choice, these trucks look best with some sidewall and not big diam wheels with short sidewalls

  13. GMC firetruck project 9-7-06 104.jpg 47 pu 10-18-11 002.jpg ...I'm in favor of 15" wheels,....for a traditional look they have it, you need some good tire sidewall.

I've got 15x8 with 255-60 tires and that is as wide as will fit between the fender and bed. I think I have right at 1/2 inch clearance inside and out and it will rub on the inside on hard corners. That may be the soft bushings in the rear springs I have more than anything else though.
I still wonder how a guy who has been a member since 2009 doesn't grasp the concept that 17 inch rims aren't Hamb friendly especially if you stick those rubber band tires on them.
