Neat project. I'm watching this too. I'm building one as well. No chance of hitting that cash limit though. You're a better man thann me if you can do it. The had part is resisting the toys. I already screwed up by picking up a new Clay Smith cam and Offy 4x2 intake with Rochesters. I had the carbs but $500 for rebuild and linkage and the like. There went my $2 a pound. Hopefully find more pieces at the CHRR in October, got friends looking at the swap meets I'm not set up at. Possiby have a roller by the spring.
Gary, what else are you looking for as far as ch***is stuff goes? I have a few extra bits and pieces I could bring down your way on one of my sales trips for work.
Those bones are a score! On a related note, I picked up the back of a 30 sedan in nice shape, with gl***, wood, and paint still on it, for FIVE dollars this weekend. I thought of this build once the shock wore off.
I'm subscribed. Tex Smith did the same thing in his Hot Rod Mechanix mag back in the 80s with a '30-1 roadster body he drug home years earlier. Called it his 'Buck a Pound' roadster.

I'm really liking the new plasma cutter we got at work, I'm not sure if I can call it dumpster diving but a dumpster gave up some metal for the front spring perches , a little grinding to get the paint off and they're good. ,

About 12 years ago, I said on another forum that I bet I could build a little hot rod for $3000. It wasn't going to be beautifully finished with lots of chrome and stuff, but drivable and fun. So I started scrounging up cheap parts. As the project went along, I started to fall in love with the way it was looking, so I abandoned the $3K deal and dumped a bunch of money and time into it. I sure hope you are able to stick to your budget, I love the concept. Looks like you have made a good start. Don

Hey, I think 3/4 ths of the steel in my hot rod came from the dumpster at work. Doesn't bother me a bit! keep on truckin'!
The steel came out of the sides of the dumpster where the lift forks go thru it, it had been hit by a truck and was heading to the s**** yard, cut as much flat pieces as I could.,
The steel out of the dumpster is just as good as what you have to pay premium price for at the steel supplier, maybe even better because it is cheaper!
I may stop by your area in Oct. when I go to the Hot Rod Reunion at Famoso, going to be set up at the swap meet for 3 days.

Scored at the Habitat for Humanity thrift store today, looking for windows for the shop and found 2 P235 / 75 15" Coker 3" wide whitewalls for $20.00 just sitting in the bargain yard., they should work great on the reversed Buick rims with 50 Merc centers that came off my brothers "A" 20 years ago. . ,
