I just picked up an 8.8 rear out of an 1998 Explorer, it has an electrical plug on the housing with two wires coming into it ? Does this engage the limited slip ??
    Thanks

No, that plug has nothing to do with the limited slip.

Cut the wires - you don't need it.

BUT ! you could use it to provide the pulse signal for an electronic speedometer if needed. Just sayin'

If this is true, what a great idea...........Thanks. :)

Otherwise, you can remove the receptacle (if you wish) and make a little plate to cover the port.

You can leave it there to catch any metal that happens to be floating around.

It's the ABS speed sensor, not needed in your application. There's a wheel attached to the crown wheel that triggers the sensor. You can leave it there or remove and cover with a plate. I've seen this done and the protective ears either side of the sensor just ground off. There's an O-ring under the sensor shoulder that prevents oil leakage due to pressure inside when in motion.
