I have found a source for a custom intake for a dual carb setup I am really wanting to run two stromburgs on my straight eight, however my question is will my current six volt setup be enough spark to make them provide the extra power I'm looking for? I am pretty new at this and it is my first project so any suggestion would be helpful, I am a little worried that if I have to switch to a twelve volt than I will have to redo all my wiring. Anyway thanks for the help. Steve
Yes. 6 volts should do fine. 12 volt vehicles at least until the 80s maybe beyond reduced the voltage to the ignition to around 6 volts.
Thanks F-One that eased my mind a lot well I will post again once my parts arrive. I was up and down about keeping the straight eight but its such a beast of an engine I hated to pull it out
why would extra spark be needed? Are you doing anything but adding carburetion? If not your car will probably run rich and might need the next range hotter spark plug, but extra Voltage??? Unless you are near 10 to 1 compression ratio, the stock system should be more than up to the job. But I would bet that 80% of home hot rodded engines are running rich because they have to many or too big carbs on them and 70% of their owners are blaming their ignition for poor running, hard starts, black smoke, lack of drivability.
