Anyone ever swap one of these over to a Customline or any other 50's Fords? Came across a free one with brand new rack and brand new springs up front.
I know it is a common swap for F100s, which makes me think the width wouldn't be right without modifying it heavily. (I've heard the beauty of the swap on the F100 is the crown vic IFS is very close to the stock width and nearly bolts in)
05 Crown Vic Track width with stock wheels - 63 1/2 Hub to hub surface - 67 1/2 Outside of tire - 71 1/4 For comparison, 1950 Ford has a 56" track width, 56 Ford has a 58" track width. 57 Ford has a 59" track width Hope this helps
I did some research on this last night and it looks like it's next to impossible to do. Would have been cool to do but not looking like it now! Thanks all!
Okay.... this may not be the best idea or even possible. Could the front frame ***embly be cut and narrowed? A different rack would be needed, but should work.
Since you got it free troll some F-100 sites and flip it and use the cash to upgrade yours. You might look this chart over for possible donors. http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Wheelbase,_track_width,_and_differential_measurements
It fits right into the 67-79 F150's with hardly any modifications. I thought about looking at the Explorer front end (narrower) but I have one of those and they have crazy bump steer.
Regarding front clips this goes a bit further so you have to read the text in full seems like this would be a possible alternative. http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/261922419351
For the amount of work, I think I may just keep the y block in the car until it sells or quits chugging along. I just want to be able to drive the car again. My plan is by next spring to be driven!
If your intent was to do an engine swap, that can be done with over the counter parts using a 302/5.0 or 351C with an AOD or C4. Improving handling is also a no brainer, all the info can be found in our FAQ section.
On that 50 Ford, a 62.8 (Torino) front track on a car that had a 56" (50 Ford) track width..... Hmmmm.... it does not look as bad as I imagined it may
It will be getting a sbf after the air ride and 4 link are done and working fine. just a matter of time and money and I have been lacking both recently.
it doesn't fit. I've already tried. The problem isn't cutting the frame because i don't have a single issue with chopping up an old frame if it gives me safer more dependable car. It's the wheel backspacing you need to clear the calipers. It's too wide to put the same backspacing on the back having to cut wheel openings out of the quarters. .....I guess it would be ok if you were after the g***er look without the 5 mile turning radius.
