So as I mentioned I'm trying to get to a point where I can paint the front of the bed . So I had to finish the top of the bed . Then had to get the back done to a point where I can install the floor so I can put in the e track across the front of the bed with braces .
While working on the rear I went ahead and figured out the rear bumper . I bought a 59 GMC front at a swap meet but didn't look right on the front . So I cut it up and made it work on rear . The bumper isn't wide enough for what I have in mind . I ordered 2 from a supplier and will cut and weld them together and will do welds under the ***s . image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Cheaper to buy two aftermarket in chrome and weld together where it won't show than using old ones and re chroming . Back to it tomorrow. Blue

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Worked on finishing under the bed the last two days . I had a tube I welded in to support the shocks , and since I needed a place to run my anti-sway bar , I had Speedway Engineering in Ca. Cut me one and I ran it through the tube with some bushings I made . Will order some hemi joints tomorrow and finish them up when I get them .
I also mounted the height controls for the rear and roughed in the wiring while I still have light before I weld in the bed next week it's slow but coming along .
I've been collecting parts for my wife's 59 Chevy wagon and got the gas tank in Friday and picked up a nice full size steering wheel . Better get to work on it pretty soon as my car port is filling up .

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT ,let's hope not. I extended the rear bumper 2 feet today , that makes it 8'2" . I cut the bumpers apart with a cutoff wheel then tacked them to see how they look .be gone tomorrow but on Wednesday I will put the top part on and adjust the ends to lie where I need them . The second picture will give you an idea of what's ahead . I will roll the rear quarters into the bed side . And mold the rear into the bumper.

Been playing with the bump this morning. Raised it up 1 3/4" and trimmed the top . Broke two of the tacks and moved both sides back two inches , protects the quarters better . When I pulled them back it made the bumper wider and I will pull it back apart and refit the welds at different angle and inch closer . I like the looks of it . What do you think ? Will weld it and build mounts in morn. image.jpg

Please tell me the exhaust is going to come out of the middle of the circles on the bumper.

image.jpg Answer your question ? The bed and sleeper raise up and would be hard to run the exhaust, but a cool idea . Thanks , now I won't be able to sleep tonight thinking .

Finished tigging up the bumper today after cutting an inch out of both sides . Then refitted the top and all mounted up . Will build the outer braces when I take it apart for paint , next will be to build panels and do body work on bed . Bumper fits good and doesn't hit ground with bed up at ride height. But first I will put in bed floor . image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

;)Well yesterday this tread turned 2 and I'm filling 20 years older and grayer . I put the diamond plate in the bed . I then put the e track across the front with 2 braces. Welded up all the parts and I'm glad to finish that part . Man working by yourself with heavy metal is hard on the body . Tomorrow I will start on the hinges for the tailgate which will hinge to either side or remove to be a ramp . The rivets used to hold the e-track look good on front of the bed although only 3 on each side will show behind the sleeper . image.jpg image.jpg

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Got my hinges done and cut down the ramp to make my tailgate/ramp for the bed . Got it all clamped up and ready for tigging tomorrow. Had a hard time getting a puddle going and probably need to rest . Pins in hinges pull out to release either side or both to make a ramp .

Thanks ,Moose . It's all your fault for making it look so good in Red And White .

A good night rest will make a difference. I had my clearance effect set + instead of - . Makes a big difference in AC tigging.
Got all my thin Al welded up but am out of ACC. for my torch,so I can't pre heat for my thick parts . Will go over to a friends tomorrow and use his big water cooled tig and finish up . Once welded I will bolt to hinges the cut radius on top so it will swing with no interference.
The inside is the finished product but the back will get a cover that I will make and will have the GMC ornament in the center .

Well we are back from va-ca and took me three days to get everything back to normal . The last two days I've been getting the sleeper ready for paint . Man there are a lot of rivets on that thing . Going around every one to get all the paint off is a pain. I'm just about finished and wanted to put on some primer tomorrow but looks like rain through the weekend. It's a shame I have to paint it , it's nice and shiny now . Will post some photos when painted and put on frame . image.jpg

Don't know why it's taken me so long to catch up to this project. This is sensational.
Love the side profile on the concept art.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Put 2k primer on yesterday . In the middle of spraying one of my big lights blew . Woke up to 2 sags today after I got a ladder and bulb back in place . I made a paint shaver out of a file I have . One wack with a br*** hammer and good to go . Have seen them in Eastwood , don't know why it took so long to make one . Worked great .
Tomorrow I will sand and do some body work and try and put more primer on . Then on to color .

Work , Work , Work !!!!!! Crack that whip and tote that bale ! That is the way I feel . image.jpg
