My 3 yr project. Got to drive it for the first time today. Still plenty of work but it was a great feeling to reach this milestone
Isn't that a great feeling ? Makes all the work and busted knuckles worthwhile ! Great looking hot rod too, congrats on getting it running. Don
Congratulations, that first ride whether it's across the yard or down the street really gets the juices flowing and will put a grin on your face a side grinder can't remove! HRP
It took me much longer than 3yrs. to drive a 32 that I started for Cyclone in 2002. When I finally drove it, It was one of the greatest feelings of excitement yet in my life and I've built many cars, but this one was truly one that I felt that I should really sit back when I did just anything and think about it and take it all in. It still is nowhere near done, but it is a driver and an accomplishment. Congratulations on your first drive and enjoy many more to follow!!!!! CK
First drives are great ! Not that long since I took the first drive in my Shoebox. A great feeling ...
Wow.........3 years, eh? Mine has been stuck in the shop for almost 8 years now. I'm happy for ya, man and I'll be cruising mine next spring with any luck at all...

The first drive is always exciting. Huge milestone that will give you inspiration to push on and finish!! Congratulations!!!
Good job, Mate. amazing how long it takes to put a car together one piece at a time especially when you got to hunt down the missing pieces. I'm looking for my next project, I can not live with out having a project going finishing is often disappointing. Best, Bill
Man,the car looks like it was not good foir anything other than yard art in this photo. You did a great job bring it back from the dead congratulations. HRP
Thanks, and this may sound dumb but I built this from knowledge that I gained totally from the HAMB. I have never built a car before. I learned from all the great build threads that have been posted. I know this is not a top notch car but I would never have even attempted this without seeing some of the examples on this site. I did all the work myself and stayed well below $10k. I tried to use original parts and traditional methods. Build list Chopped 4” Original frame and cross members Flattened rear crossmember and used a 1940 Ford spring Original front spring – reversed 1934 ford wishbone split Orig Ford Axle – dropped 4” by Joe’s Hot Rod Shop 1934 Ford front spindles F1 steering box and column- modified flange 1939 Ford Brake/Clutch pedal 1957 Ford nine inch rear , rebuilt brakes Modified early dodge truck shock mounts for front with Model a headlight bar ends for headlamps Vintage Guide headlights 1956 272 Ford y block with t-5 tranny Ford 16” steel wheels and trim rings Original speedometer Original grill Original Ford Hood Original E brake handle 1932 Ford pitman arm Original Ford spoon gas pedal 1936 rear radius rods New front backing plate assemblies from SO-Cal Porter mufflers Walker Radiator New fuel tank from Bob Drake Master cylinder –Bob Drake New fuel and SS brake lines –Speedway Fuel, oil and temp gauge –Stewart Warner (new from Speedway) Painless wiring harness Front and rear shocks from Speedway Rams horn exhaust - Speedway
That's awesome and doesn't sound dumb at all! You've built a killer ride there and have shown first hand the value the H.A.M.B. users bring in sharing experiences. Keep up the great build and share away for those future builders!
Yes, I made a hammer from a welding gas cylinder cap. Roughed out the big dents and then used a hammer/dollie
