I just got a 1957 S-110 with a locked up engine. My dad has a 1957 S-110 (I think), it's the brown truck below. Anyone know why my truck (black one) has a depression in the drivers fender for a spare tire and my Dads doesn't? I live in Virginia and my dad lives in Arizona. He said his truck will never leave AZ because it will rust, so i bought my own. Anyone around Virginia have a spare IH flathead 6 block around?
Dunno bout the wheelwells, but the leading edges of those hoods fit the grille different, is yours smashed or maybe a different year? Good luck with the old binder, you'll have the only one every where ya go.
that's due to the bad angle and my hood isn't properly attached. so it's sitting funny. Mine has the same gap on the front as the other one. A better pic maybe?
id imagine your truck didnt have the option of the spare. just my thoughts. looks cool. deff. different. cool!
It just depends on how it was ordered. I have a 1953 R-100 with out the spare, a 1955 S-100 with out the spare, a 1954 R-100 with the spare and had a 1950 L-110 with a spare there.
I have a '53 IH R110 project in the garage - a truck for my wife. If any of you guys with these trucks have a straight, spare p***enger side front fender laying around, let me know. I'm looking to buy one, and maybe a straight grille too. Thanks! JR
Not to hijack the thread but I just happen to have two p***enger sides if your interested P.M. me . One of them I think is an NOS fender.
Are you looking for the Green Diamond flathead six? That engine ceased to be in IH pickups after 1949. 1950 and newer pickups got the OHV Black Diamond or Silver Diamond 220 or 240ci.
hey, just wondering if you know what the bolt pattern is on those wheels? i have a 56 ih i just started on
I got a 1955 S100 I put somewhere in the 80's model dodge ram wheels you can check out my trucks on youtube at william1952ih
I just thought I'd jump in. I've got a 54 R-110 and I have been hunting a grill emblem. Anybody have a spare?
Hey, Man UP, I have a 345 with auto trans with 40K on it, I would be getting rid of. Still in the truck, you can hear and drive it around, and the best part it is in VA. I am thinking about going diesel on this rig.
Spare tire mounting was an option that could be ordered on a new truck. Your engine may not be that bad. Take the head off and see what is going on inside. You may be able to have the valves ground, replace the rings and bearings, possibly a timing chain and be good to go for another 50,000 miles at a cost of a few hundred $$$ bucks.
The spare was optional as well as a radio, heater, bumpers and ashtray. Anyway that is why one has a spare divot and one does not. I would not waste my time on a flathead binder motor, of you want to keep it all IH look for a later valve in head 6 or a 304 v-8. No reason to own a 50 MPH vehicle in a 70 MPH world. That said do what you want.
I'm with P &B on that one, putting an older flathead six in that truck would be five steps backwards and end up with a truck that was only good for a conversation piece. Find out what's wrong with the six that's in it and either repair it or find a decent replacement. It looks like you might be able to go up to 69 and stay with the same engine family as far as basic design and maybe even pick up a good number of cubic inches while having an engine that looks original to the truck. Unless you are just an absolute die hard IH nut I'd stay from swapping in an IH V8 though. Parts supply is pretty well limited to IH dealer parts counters for many of the parts and cost for those parts is high. There is very little aftermarket support for the or at least was when I was working on them a lot. Good engines with a lot of torque but having to go to the dealer and pay dealer prices (full list) for parts all the time kills the fun.
Here's one I had, sold it before completion. The '57 was a half year so yours, like mine, were the early productions, so they look like a '56. Big inliner ran like a top, but lacked any pep. Just throw a small block in yours and have fun.
