If you had the chance to help decide some of the rules for the new diiger cl***,would you want an open cl*** for CID?
Just a thought but what if you made an over and under cl*** with the cutoff at 301 cubes.......it could get interesting if you get some 303 olds motors and 302's, it may keep the flatty's and straight sixes semi close and then things could get interesting for any destroked motors......I would guess an awesome matchup would be a hot little desoto 276 VS. a 283 punched to 301 maybe I'm just thinking to much.
Ya know I really don't like rules. But I'm thinkin' that open to 350 cid will make it easier for some of the fellas and leave room for baby hemis. So that's my thinkin' on it. It still leaves out the monster strokers, and the first overbore on a Chebby 350, but that way if someone wants to build an old 348 or snags a 327 they can still clean up the bores and make cl***. I don't know that I count as a digger wannabe but there is a HAMBer here in town that was already leaning toward a small block powered digger. That's my thoughts on it anyhow. Benno
OK, call it 355. It won't let me edit the poll. Besides, I ain't getting my micrometers out to check. You'll know if a guy is lying......
Your car is probably too long for this cl*** anyway Dave. There will probably be a general dragster cl***.
Guys Want to make a cheap dragster cl*** but leave out the SBC? DUH You can build 3 of them for the price of one flatty. Need 3 cl***es I think. 1 for flattys and inliners, 1 for all those Olds, hudson, Buick, whatever engines up into the 330's, and one for the SBC/SBF/354 Hemi cars.
I am not in the running for building a car but am defimately a dragster wanna-be. I think limiting it to 355 would be good for these reasons - I would want to run a relatively stock 350 SBC (to hopefully keep costs down) and rely on my weight to power ratio to make it exciting. This is just a fun cl*** anyhow, isnt it?? Hell, I'd have a ball making 13 second runs in a digger all day long without fear of tearing too much stuff up...
You're cutting the 392 Hemi out? Maybe an Unlimited Cl*** with a year cut off on the engines/trannies/speed parts, instead of a CI limit? Just thinking out loud. I don't think I'll be able to make it this year.
Stolen from the C/T rules around here: CID limits are based upon .040 or .060 overbores depending on whose rules... so that means: 350 chevys .060 = 358" 351 fords .060" over is just shy of 360 cubes 360 chryslers .060 over is just shy of 370" That should let anyone run whatever brand they are partial to... I wouldn't mind a break at 310" (if a guy wanted to run a 305 sbc @.030 over or a 302 ford at .060 over...) I've got around $500 into my budget engine and it's nothing special and makes great power... (got this kit with some upgrades a couple years ago when it was under $400 and then basic block clean, bore, piston press for just over $100) and did all the ***embly work myself.
Digger cl*** would be real neat. Sure would give me a kick in the *** to finish my slingshot. But how about 150'' wheel base limit. That is about how long they were gettin at the end of 1964. And then mine would work.lol.
I would King Ch***is but all the local bracket racers would flood the place. There is already a dragster cl*** in place for all others. This one would group the early step frame type of ch***is cars together in a similar hp range, but if we do decide to open it up to a larger CID the et range is gonna be widespread I am afraid. The guys with 283's will never be able to hang with guys running a 383 stroker.
I will buy you a beer if you have the rail at the HAMB drags.........oh yea, it sure does look real warm in your garage. I know that I froze my rear off hear in the left side of the state today. Chris Nelson Kansas Oh yea, I received your PM. The main thing that I am looking for is V8-60 parts or Stude backdraft carbs or early Jag motor parts. I drug home a 59' Jag motor the other day.
I like the 335 cl*** - good for some great 283/327's and of course the Desoto 330 Hemi as well as the other baby Hemi's. Also alows the Cad 331 and Olds 303/324 all of course can be real runners. And lets not forget the early Y blocks as well. The SBC 350 is just too common in my book. Would love to see those vintage mills running down the strip!
Yeah I hear ya. Man , I love front engine dragsters, but some of those bracket f.e.ds are just terrible. Per period 1950s to late 1960s cars rock. I guess that i will have to bring mine just for fun. p.s. This car also has a chute back body, just not on it in this pic. See you guys at MOKAN with my sedan for sure. And the digger in 2007.
