Hello everyone, I have a 1950 Silver Streak that I want to change the hub caps on. I like the original, but want to spice it up a little. I have found a set that I like, but they attach differently than the originals. Here is a picture of the ones I am considering: My question is how exactly these attach to the wheel. The description says they are about 8" inside diameter. The original hub caps attached by 3 tabs, but these seem to just press into place. Has anyone had experience with these? Will they fit inside the original wheel? I will measure the diameter of the center of the rim tomorrow, but wondering if anyone can enlighten me on how to attach them. Thanks
Those are '49-'50 caps. If your wheels don't have the 3 slots for the clips, you don't have the '50 wheels. Any '49-'56 Olds or Pontiac, & '49-'53 Cad wheels will fit your car & the caps will fit. Finding the clips will be the hard part ... Hang on to the caps no matter what - they look amazing on 14" x 6'' reversed chrome wheels with black tires.
Thank you for the response 302GMC. Here is a picture of the caps that came on the car: So you are saying that I need to find the back for the new caps, like the one on the back of the old one pictured above? It has 3 slots to fit onto the clips on the wheel. There are 3 clips on my car's wheels that hold the current hubcaps in place.
Both the small cap & wheel cover shown above fit the Pontiac & Olds wheels as is - if you have the right wheels.
I like those too, have a set on my '51 wagon. I have 94 Impala disk brakes, the wheels clear the calipers after "clearancing" the calipers with a grinder...
Thanks for the info about the Impala brakes. I am about to start a Scarebird disc brake upgrade. Hopefully they will go on easily. What did you do about a master cylinder?
