My grandfather gave me this 48 f1 five years ago. I am doing a full rework of the truck. It's gonna have all modern suspension, brakes, steering ect. but the engine and body are staying original. Half way there! Flipped the rear axle and I have some great advice for that if anyone wants to know. Mustang ifs in front, power brakes and steering, all new electrical and interior. I bought a $40 roll of carpet and reworked the inside I think it turned out real nice so far.
Hi. Dad had a 48 F1 that I learned how to drive in. Drove it when I got my license in 1953. I scared the living hell out of that license guy that went with me to p*** for my license. Think he p***ed me so he would not have to ever ride with me again. He did not like my hot rod style of driving. Had a flathead 6 & 4 on the floor with a Granny low. It steered like an army tank with a broken track (powerful steering) & did 55 MPH wide open downhill. We would go to the drive in movie on weekends & park the truck backwards with lawn chairs in the bed to watch from back there. Too hot in the cab. Good memories on that ol pickup for me. Jimmie
Looks like a nice solid truck. The family connection makes it even better. My Grandkids are arguing over mine already!
The carpet looks great.I have to get a roll to do my olds wagon.I am going to run carpet in the back too.It was just metal when it came out.Too plain.Bruce.
welcome it looks like it going to be a nice build and the family history is really cool congrats! Jim
Nice truck. I've got my grandpa's 1950 F-1, first brand new vehicle he ever bought. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.
Carpet came from Lowes, indoor outdoor carpet with rubber backing. It molds great and has that ribbed cl***ic look.
Wanted everyone to see my axle flip set up. Bought a set of axle perches and planted them under axle, then used the stock shock mount reversed and bought new square u bolts. Underneath you will see a super long center bolt that is welded into the perch and runs through the whole system. I need to cut it down now. The whole flip cost me $35 and brought my rear end down 4 to 5 inches. I also removed one leaf from the pack. Notch kit came from eBay and was super easy to weld in. Hope someone else out there can use my set up. Thanks
My solution to the trashed headliner. I bought a sheet of 18g steel and made these two side caps. (Excuse the terrible welding) The new headliner will be also made of sheet metal but covered in material. It slides right under these caps and then a couple of rivets to hold in place. Will never sag and if it gets wet it should be ok.
