Hi all. I have been admiring all the talent and awesome builds on this forum for some time now. I thought I would share my build. I have never built a car but my Dad had as he was a bodyman and painter most of his life. The start of the build was a 29 Roadster that my Dad acquired in 1969. It was a pretty decent driver, but not much fun to drive. Dad always wanted to build a hot rod but never had time. When he finally had time, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. That was about 10 years ago. When he talked about selling the 29, I persuaded him to build one more car and we would do it together. This is what we started with.

    This is the inspiration.

The original frame rebuilt. Boxed, kicked, 9" Ford rearend, Ford 302 with a AOD behind it (had to be a Ford in a Ford), chrome dropped front axle with hairpins

Mockup. This will be full fendered, full hood, all original steel

Body is ready for paint. Color will be 2011 Mustang Race Red. My 79 yo Dad did 100% of the metal work on this car. He still has the touch and I am super proud of him. Here's the body as it sits today.

I will post more pics of the build process. I didn't want to go too picture heavy in my first post. My Dad did all the metal work on the sheet metal while I built the chassis. I know it is not easy work for him now, but his skill and abilities are still amazing. I regret not building a car with him earlier in life.

Are there "rules" for avatars? My 5.0 Mustang is a hot rod in it's own right.

I be watching, 28-29 roadsters are my favorite.

  8. Hi, You both have great skills! Awesome build and I love the inspiration photo! It's showing a great taste for a full fendered Roadster!

Now about the avatar, yes it's a bad ass hot rod ford but it's not a H.A.M.B. friendly car.
    (That's all!)
You should use a photo of the project that you and your dad is on, or even that awesome finished inspiration picture?

  9. Glad you are going Ford in a Ford, and while the AOD doesn't really fall into the '65 cutoff date for H.A.M.B.-friendly, I and so many others of a certain age want that cruisability option, so we cheat a little. Your father and you exhibit great skills, and your project is meaningful to all of us on many levels.

  10. Please excuse me, I should have first said welcome to the H.A.M.B !!!

Thanks for the welcome Sandman. Sorry to offend anyone with a "unfriendly" avatar. Regarding my build, I was just really proud of it and thought I would share. I absolutely love the traditional cars. I would have went flathead, but was already too far into the chassis fabrication designed around a more modern V8 and automatic by the time I fully appreciated flatheads.

  13. Your welcome, No need to apologize! It didn't offend me or probably very many members but it was just best to change so you didn't get too much S___T from other members. Who knows? maybe an avatar can be what ever you want as long as it isn't inappropriate! (maybe it is inappropriate?) I'm not a moderator.
Anyhow, as long as you run a hood, you'll be glad you have that drive train if you go on really long journeys!
Maybe your next project you can do a 100% period car?
    That's all your decision!:D

  14. Also want to say that your new avatar is awesome and looks good above your name.
I'm actually surprised that name wasn't already taken!

Thanks for positive comments sandman, walter, lothiandonl, i-shot and x38. Yes, I would love to build one in a more traditional style. Although, I think my build looks pretty traditional unless you lift the hood. Maybe one day I will change over to a flathead. For now, with health issues looming, there is some urgency to get it on the road. Dad needs to drive his car again.

Thanks graham, binger and hotrodmyk. Looks like we are neighbors hotrodmyk....I actually live in the Hockinson area, but there's nothing there but a store and a gas station, so I just say I from Vancouver. Is your avatar your truck? Looks awesome!
