Projects Will Ford 37 drivetrain go right on 30 frame?

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Abbracadaniel, Sep 17, 2015.

  1. There is one thing that hasn't been addressed in that $500 pile of parts, what condition is everything in? From the patina it doesn't appear that the parts were removed from a recently restored car the was being upgraded. You had better check everything carefully or buy with a right of return after you have gotten the stuff home and taken it apart.

Another subject, if you have a plan you can attach dollars to it and decide if the budget will let you have what you want, trust me it is best to know early. I hate to admit that I have built several cars on paper and then decided not to spend the money to make them real. Of course things are going to change as you find parts for your project but it is best to have a plan to start with.

Best of luck with your project.

@Charlie Stephens those parts look like what you find in the Northeast. A fresh setup like what you'd probably be more likely to find in SoCal would cost a lot more in the Northeast US and Canada. Having handled and eyeballed a lot of stuff in similar condition, as long as the rear end turns and isn't dry or filled with water, he's still probably in good shape. I can see the brake lines still intact on the rear, which is a good sign, because they'll tend to be rotted away on stuff that's set under a tree for years.

It is a safe****umption that the brake shoes will be locked up on the brake drums, which will be a PITA, but a good excuse to buy a nice hub puller and a couple pry bars. On the subject of the drums, the fins look fairly crisp, which again tells me these didn't sit out under a tree for decades. In fact, it looks like there is a sheen of black at the ends around the nut which tells me they may not have been out of service or in the elements all that long and may actually be free spinning.

  3. Looking at those photos again, am I missing something? Does it look like the U-Joint bell has been cut off the torque tube?

I noticed a coupler on the pinion. But I didn't catch that until you pointed it out; yeah, looks it. But I would just use that as something to point out when negotiating the deal; I still see a good pile for the money there. ($500 CDN is less than $400 USD)

So the guy selling me those parts tells me to come on by to pick them up. I tell him it's an hour drive so see you then and he says that's fine. I get there nobody's home, no answer on the phone or text messaging.
