I have pacemaker full length dual outlet headers, 144ci connecting to 1 1/4" pipe, straight back exiting out under the bumper with peashooters. Loud. Smaller diameter pipe creates more backpressure. ***o
My 61 Comet has a set of ****** Dual Outs that go from Collectors to Stainless steel flex fittings then to separate Turbo type mufflers than to a Y pipe feeding the Xhaust Splitter(Dump). The cable allows me to: 1) run through the additional rear Gl***pack in the stock position exiting under rear right bumper or 2) Dump out the side through an angle tipped pipe in front of rear right wheel. The dump still exits after the dual turbo type mufflers. I can go quiet with gl***pack low frequency or raspy loud with open xhaust rumble. And it sure feels faster with the dump open!. The flapper valve contolling the dump broke after @ 1/2 hour. I had to disconnect the pipes and MIG it up in place in the cast Dump fittiing. After that it was just fun , fun , fun. A buddy of mine has a falcon set-up with dual straight pipes dumping straight into mufflers. The mufflers end at about mid body. He's runnin a HO289 so obviously it sounds mean but that set-up would be a cheap try. Otherwise just get a bunch of 10 foot sections and try out as many set-ups as you can untill you find something that fits your needs. Just don't go too small on diameter or you'll end up sounding like a missile. I'd say between 2 and 2-1/2. Depending on how far back the exhaust goes.
I did the same thing to my '64 Falcon Wagon that I did to my old '62 Comet. I cut the muffler off and went down to Home Depot and bought a length of 1.5 electrical conduit to run a straight pipe out the back. Cheesy I know, but stick a chrome tip on it, and none shall be the wiser. Raps like a *****. I would eventually like to split the manifold, and run true dual straight pipes. By the way I've heard ***o's Falcon and it soulds *****in'.
