Seems to me Barris would still own it... but I'll believe it's been found when I see it..

Interesting story - that would be quite a find if it were true, although with all that happened with that car, all I can think of is Christine...

I thought it was buried in an Indiana corn field with Jimmy Hoffa at the wheel and what was left of D B Coopers money in the trunk.

I saw what were claimed to be the remains of the car at a car show at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, late '50s...there was not much left of it, remember the rear fenders, car torn away down the middle...

The phrase "Possession is nine-tenths of the law" is often claimed to date from the 16th century. In some countries, possession is not nine-tenths of the law, but rather the onus is on the possessor to substantiate his ownership.

It would be hard to prove or disprove George Barris claim unless there are some record showing he is/was the owner of the remains of the Porsche.

If it was in his possession when it was stolen/lost I would hope he would be the precipitant of the reward if and when the car was recovered. HRP

Quite a while back, Ryan stated in a thread that he knew where the remains of James Dean's 550 were and personally saw it if im not mistaken.
Somewhere in the midwest i believe, but that i could be wrong on.
But i know i read a post by him saying he knew where it was.

I think that I have read that any physical possession of anything from the car has brought bad luck to the holder.

    True, I don't know??

I guess I wonder about all the mystique here concerning the car.. Why?? It's just James Dean's old wrecked car is all...

Now if it was the, "Wicked Witch of the West's", real flying "broom", that would be different!!

    He, He!!

Funny. I was just thinking the other day about that car and when it would finally turn up.

Hmm, guys sees it getting hidden behind a wall and does nothing for 50 years? I suppose there are ways to explain why (like who did he know to get to be there) but yeah, let's see it. Paging Geraldo Rivera.

I heard that when they towed it away from the accident James Deans head was still under the seat.

  19. Barely enough room under a Spyder's seat for a pack of smokes, much less a human head. He wasn't decapitated, he died from a broken neck

Not sure what the fuss was regarding him. He was just an celebrity, no real use to the world. I feel sorry for the relatives of course.

  24. The banjo steering wheel also sliced his stomach open and contributed to his death, Banjo wheels were known as a hazard. A good example SCTA banned banjo steering wheels from their meets in the 40s because in an impact they did serious harm & damage. One reason I will never run one no matter how cool they look.

NO it didn't. He hit his head on the steering wheel and then his head snapped back so hard, he broke his neck. Died instantly.

Apparently on the heels of an episode of Brad Meltzer's show. I wouldn't believe anything that dooshbag "exposed".

  28. I know he broke his neck and was the cause of death. A book on Dean I read also stated his stomach was sliced open by the steering wheel this may have been a bit of sensationalist writing, in any case either of those would be enough to kill. What I wrote about the banjo wheels being dangerous in an impact is still true.

Yeah, but Dean was probably going about 120mph right? lol Kinda hard to see a 'blur' when you are pulling onto a road.

No, "only" 55 or 60 - but so was the Ford.
BTW, we know the license number of Dean's Porsche was 2Z 77 767 - but about 25 years ago I heard the license of Donald Turnupseed's Ford was 6A 48 143. This was in a long conversation with someone high up in the We Remember Dean fan club. I haven't been able yet to verify that on the net; has anyone else seen the number mentioned?
