Anyone with a 'wanted' ad is in for a scam reply; I got two scammers with Florida addresses and one from the UK trying to sell me a block that I am looking for...they can't provide specific photos and they want to use MoneyGram. I wish there was a permanent way to 'fix' the problem..... .
The easiest fix is to put your wanted in your sig line they are not scouring the HAMB reading sigs they are looking in the class ads most specifically wanted ads.
Yes...I just have been emailing back and forth with him. Total scam about some parts I was looking for. In case someone is in his neighborhood and wants to drive by, the address he wants me to Moneygram to is: Linda (Jim) Shaw, 198 Hillcrest Dr. Calhoun, Ga. 30701. It would be nice to show up at his door,,,have a little conversation.
That's probably not his address he can pick up at any western union office in the world with the tracking number.
That's the way it should be, hot rodders helping out other hot rodders! I think most of the folks here are like that, they'd give you the shirt off their back for you to wipe your greasy hands on!
Here is a copy of the email he sent me yesterday in regards to a Sharp 8BA head I am looking for: Sounds good. I am currently confined to bed rest at home as I'm recovering from a spinal cord surgery. My wife works with FedEx, so I will have her pick up payment and arrange shipping for me. Here are the details you would need for payment via Money Gram transfer: Name: Linda Shaw Address: 198 Hillcrest Dr, Calhoun, GA 30701 After payment, do email me the details below from the Money gram payment receipt: Sender's Name: Reference #: Amount Sent: I shall email you a tracking # and other shipping info once she is done with shipping. Kindly let me know once you've made payment so I can have her complete shipping arrangement. thanks, Jim.
Better send that moneygram quick. That house is for sale and he may move before you can get the money to him.
Sounds like the same guy that scammed me. I wish I could send him his worst nightmare. Piece of shit.
The reference number is all that he needs to ick up anyplace that there is a western union. he is using a name that someone can prove is them, a lot of the African scammers have to use a security question because one they don't have ID and two the name you are sending to isn't them anyway. Then they need the answer to the security question which is how they prove that it is them. I always tell them that they don't need the reference number they just have to know their name, makes it a little harder for them to get if they are not in the right place. Here is something that we have started doing here, we use Walmart money transfer. You can even send it to dead people because there are Walmart Stores all over hell. But you can designate the Walmart store or just the state, senders option. Find a store near them (if there is one) and you send it there, they have to produce picture ID. Just did it recently when I sold a scooter frame, the guy sent me a deposit to hold it until he got here to the local wally world. I asked them when I was there if I could jave gone to any other wally world and they said if all he designated was the state then any wally world in Missouri but he designated that store so that was my only pick up option.
Careful with suggestions like that. That could be interpreted as a terrorist threat, as well as a health hazard.
They will not give you a legit address and will not accept anything in the mail if they are in the US or a country that we have an extradition treaty with. Lots of things that the powers to be will look the other way on especially if it is going to be work for them, but mail fraud is something that they really frown on.
man, I could list so many good buying experiences on the HAMB. Just afraid that if I start naming names, I might leave someone out. I have bought SO much stuff either out of the classifieds, or through contacts I have made here, my wife doesn't even think its funny...
Yea we should post good sellers or people to deal with as they come along. Be nice to hear good news on occasion, may even help someone get through the day.
I took this advice from P&B a couple months back, not only does it eliminate the scammers, but I have had more legitimate hits using this method. Got my olds rockers this way, and a lead on NOS J-2 head gaskets that paid off as well. Now I'm looking for some front wheels for my T bucket stash and one more short bar lancer. I should try to figure out the "buyers feedback" deal.
If you got scammed by this Dude, file a police report with your local police department. His name and location are known. I got scammed on Craig's list last year and filed a local police report. This report was transferred to the police in the city where he lived. The dude was arrested, convicted, an spent time. As part of his release he was to find work and start paying restitution to me. I received my first check today. He also scammed other hamb members out of mucho dollars. Hopefully they followed through.....
