Once one thing gets fixed, something else always pops up to say "hello", right? I've noticed this past week that when I go into a turn, my front right wheel sounds like its knocking or vibrating. Now, I haven't noticed if it's *only* on right turns, but I have noticed that it's dependent on speed as to how loud it is. Here's a brief (and non professional ;) ) video this morning of it happening. You can tell that at faster speeds, it's worse. Any thoughts? Wheel misalignment? I checked the spokes (35 wires) tomake sure that they're solid, and they all feel like it. It's just a recent development, though.

Do you have the proper support rings between the wire wheels and the hubs? If not, get some.

Then check loose/broken spokes, wheel bearings, loose rod ends, kingpins, shackles, steering box.

Yep, have the support rings there. No loose or broken spokes when I inspected. Wheel bearings are new, but I can check again....perhaps I didn't tighten down the castle nut enough? I'll check all the rest...

Thanks, man!! Yours looks amazing, one day I'll build one at that level. Here's the new paint job, I know folks around here don't like patina, but the car would never be plumb if I replaced every panel, as back in the 60s someone pieced the back together from two fears and leaded it well, but welded it on crooked! I figured I'd let it be what it is, mostly post war jalopy :)

I guess all these old cars have their "issues" but that is one cool ride, just as it is.... THATS a hot rod...

UPDATE: Just took it on a spin...it *wasn't* the shackles . I'm thinking its the kingpins now. I noticed that the front left has more play than the front right...prob 1-2mm on the top portion of the spindle on the diver's side, maybe 1mm or so on the top of the p***enger's.....now to find someone around here who will replace the bushings and ream them... sigh.

Order the kit and have the bushings honed for fit. Gary

Looks like getting the bushings done here in Burbank would be several hundred dollars, or at least $200 if I did it myself buying the reamer and king pin set. I'm thinking of getting this from Speedway and being done with **** a** bushings forever:

I bought my bushing reamer/driver set off eBay for 20 bucks. Sometimes it pays to search odd things like antique tools. It was advertised as an antique tool for old cars. I don't supposed it showed up in too many searches.

Sure it's a wheel and not the fan skipping off the shroud as the car flexes in a turn?

BINGO! It's funny you realized that. I discovered that to be the case this morning when I took it out. Turns out the motor mount bolts needed to be torqued down more, which had been resulting in the motor moving just slightly in a right turn, couple with frame flexing, allowed the fan to barely knick the aluminum shroud. I thought it was the wheel because I guess the sound was bouncing off the backing plate and back my way. Weird. Anyway, I got it all adjusted now and tested. At least one good outcome was tightening up the front suspension, greasing fittings, etc. I'm still planning on getting the deluxe king Lin set with the needle bearings at some point soon. I'll probably do it when I finish building my set of 48 Ford self-energizing front brakes (like the ones B*** makes). That'll be a good opportunity to do it.
