Sweet! But one thing baffles me, why is the A/C compressor piped into the valve cover? Is it a joke? Or a way to have a COOL motor? If you look you`ll see that the compressor clutch is wired up!

went back an looked and that is the oddest thing. I can't tell if the other A/C lines are hooked up. I wonder what that does. Maybe its just venting into the compressor. But that wouldn't make sense either. Im scratching my head over this one.

Hot damn. I like it just as it is, the skirts are different for sure, especially with those scoops. I love a truck with tail fins. Too damn far away to check it out in person though.

  9. Here's my guess on the compressor and hose to the valve cover. He is obviously using the compressor to pump his air bag suspension, so yes the compressor is working. The line to the valve cover would be an oil return line as my guess.

Can't be an oil return...too much of a loop in it.
I don't think the rotary style pump actually uses an oil feed or sump anyway. It uses oil suspended in the refrigerant to lube the bearings.

Perhaps he's drawing his air INTO the compressor thru the engine to pick up some oil vapor and help keep his bearings from burning up...

Wouldn't oily air degrade the lift bag rubber over time?

4 wheelers with homebuilt OB Air setups use those pumps but circulate that special oil (forget the name!) that bonds to the metal...then drain it completely and run it dry till it dies, rather than oil the tires and tire beads. All the traction in the world won't help if your smokin' your beads or popping the slippery tires off the rim! LoL

It's a homebuilt crankcase vacuum pump, to get every last horsepower needed to cruise at 7mph.

  13. pretty cool looking......not really into all the tilt bed and hood thing.

  14. I think you might have something on the oil feed. You're right about the loop. Since there is no longer refrigerant, there needs to be some source of oil. It doesn't require much and the oil vapor may be just enough. I've seen OBA systems on 4 wheelers that just use a drop or two of light engine oil. Most quality systems I've seen have an oil separator and a return line so you don't mess up your entire system with oil. I assume he has something similar here.

    That ac setup is strange...

I've heard of running a vacuum pump on the crankcase for power, but never a little foam covered PCV valve line to the AC compressor! haha

    Yeah...good point! ;)
An oil separator in the system would be easy enough to rig!
I suppose there's a pressure tank somewhere in the system anyway so the separator wouldn't have much problem dealing with the small amount of oil still in suspension after that. Most would just remain in the bottom of the pressure tank for easy draining.

Seems like the guy had a good idea if he worked all the bugs out! :D

I emailed him & he was nice enough to respond right away. He says it's for the airbags. The pump picks up enough oil through the valve cover to stay lubed. I forgot to ask if he's a HAMBer.

The images on the dash actually caught my eye, as "Woh, thats kinda cool" in a different way.

reminds me of an old 50's TV tray or a drive-in restroom wallpaper or something. I like it only cause its different and unique. never seen that done on a dash before.
