I was wondering if anyone out there was building a fenderless '20's or 30's hot rod with the stock style 4 wheel leafs all the way around. Pics of your could would be nice as well as info on how the suspension is set up. Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, DeSoto, Chevy, Buick, Olds. I am mainly thinking of non Ford style suspensions.
Do a search for chevy ch***is and it will yeild some nice pics. Also check out the underslung ch***is
I really wasn't planning on going the underslung route with this car. I want to make it a daily driver. I was thinking of just going the dearched route and dropping a stock '30's axle so I can add front brakes. It would be a well reinforced '23 Dodge ch***is with the stock fenderless coupe body on it.
Hi, I looked at a 32 Chevy truck last week that was on the original frame with leaf springs all around. Check out some trucks.
There was a pic of one in the new wizz magazine from the pile up. There was also a '32? Plymouth in the coverage of another show in the magazine. I am going to try and find pics of them.
J man You can get it down a bit by putting the axles on top of the springs, that was the original plan with the '23 that restorit got from me. Of coursde we had an old double dipper for the front. Just a little work with a hand reem and you can do the ford spindle and king pin thing with it. Those things are a rreal phone booth, I think with a major channel and a stock lid it would look really different. You planning on leaving the original eliptical setup on the rear. that could make for an intertesting suspension set up.
I see a Whippet grille shell. Bugatti had that incredibly flat piece. I see a bowtie on the bottom of the grille too. Wonder what the story is on that car? I dig it.
J-man, I guess I am a traitor. I put 40 Ford under the front of my 31 Plymouth just because it looks more like a hot rod...to me. That is a very subjective statement and not meant to offend. I think the other stuff looks cool as hell too. I just couldn't picture a fenderless car with anything but an I-beam and bones. Actually, I would have probably stayed with the original configuration and added later brakes, IF I hadn't cut it all out 15 years ago and pitched it. I had intented at that time to put Jag under it on both ends. Too much magazine exposure I guess. Anyway, the stuff you're thinkin about is a good way to get into some really cool creativity.
My 22-23 Buick Roadster sits on the 4 leaf spring suspension. Well it is a '28 Buick ch***is I used... Here it is in mock up stage, it's blown back apart to finish the ch***is and some other things....
i have the stock 31 frame under my 31 chevy all four corners still leafed as the general intended on the front i stepped the frame 5" removed some leaves and a drop tube axle on the back the springs are getting moved to the sides custom spring hangers and leaves from ???
It is a model A speedster, it has a Miller OHV conversion on it. For more build up pictures, go to http://www.nwvs.org/CarPhotos/009/009.shtml
This is the '23 that restorit got from you. I was planning on keeping the stock setup in the rear as well. If I could us the stock front axle that would be great I will have to mess with it a bit and see what I can do.
That black twoman car is a nice piece of work, lots on nice detail work. This is a Type 37A Bugatti, 4 cylinder with a blower. Last one I got to fit a body to and paint, at the time it was the best restored T37A out there. I have a spare tail section that someday will be on a speedster I plan to build.
The yellow one is a 32. The owner is from Slaterville Springs. They used a bunch of parts from Butches Rod Shop. It is a great looking car.
Kerry's got a *****in Poncho sittin on semi elipticals... schweet Hemi stuffed 'tween the rails too. only pic i have is from before he made up a set of headers for the Hemi
