I have been looking forward to seeing it for almost a year and now I find out it isn't even going to hit a screen around here. The closest one is 245 miles away in Minneapolis. Sux but I may make it before it is gone.

YES, go see this flick, it rocks!

Hopkins does a great job playing Burt and the movie feels much shorter than 2 hrs...it flies by.

on a side note the guy playing Rollie Free at Bonneville was once Matt Dillon from Gunsmoke...

"During the speed trials, Free was able to push the Vincent to an average of 148.6 mph. He decided to go for the 150 mph mark. Thinking that his racing leathers may be causing drag, Free decided to strip down to swimming shorts for the final run. He made the run lying flat, legs outstretched behind the Vincent, keeping his head low and guiding the bike by looking down and following a black stripe painted on the salt bed. The striptease act paid off for Free and he was able to cover the mile in 23.9 seconds, cracking the 150 mph barrier. On the return run, he went even faster, ending the day with an average speed of 150.313 mph. The mark broke an 11-year-old record (136.18 mph) held by Joe Petrali(H.D.)." http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame/hofbiopage.asp?id=178

Michelle and I just got back from seeing it... very good! I was a bit disappointed that they didn't spend more time on the salt, but they definitely had some sweet cars out there, and just throughout the movie. My favorite was an old ford truck that was pretty beat up looking on the docks while loading the bike onto the boat.

Definitely worth a watch, even if you're not a movie fan... just for the amount of cool old cars and trucks.

It's been out at least two weeks and it's still not around here.
There are only like 30 screens it could be on in the area.
    I don't think it's gonna show now.
Going to have to wait for the DVD.

It is not yet in my area, but Steve Natt of Motorcycle consumer News did a film review and he says you must see the film and take your family with you. He says they somehow borrowed a bunch of former land speed record cars from museums to set the period perfect scenes. Hedders

I saw it on a Wed. afternoon. 12 people max. 2 of them looked like retired nuns. They said afterwards that they liked it! I loved it. Pretty sure there were inacuracies but who cares.

The one little thing that bugged me and my buddy was that he drove from L.A. to Wendover in second gear or park!:D

Most people won't care that they didn't show a return p***, but what the hell... I loved that movie, and the footage of Challenger I and the other cars was excellent. Did they simulate that run atop Mickey Thompson's car, or did they actually take that ol' girl out for a run near top speed?

I noticed the no return p*** too and did a little digging in the movie he went 201 his record is 197 so I am ***uming he did a return run on a different run but not on his 201 mph run

Sorry, Firedome - Matt Dillon was played by James Arness, Rollie Free was played by William Lucking.

It's a great flick - go see it.

Don't wait to see it on DVD, go see it on the big screen, no matter how far away.
That flick made me realize that I'm an enormous *****.

There were many detail flaws though, especially with regards to the wheels and tires on the cars at Bonneville, they didn't have Cragars and AR five spokes in '62. A friend of ours noted that the horse trailer on Diane Ladd's property was of '70s vintage. I think the US set dressers got things really wrong but the New Zealand ones were spot on.

I know I'm nitpicking but it was still a great film, I cried at least 4 times, my daughter and wife couldn't understand why, they're not guys, they never will.

  21. Let me make this simlple for you.

If you are a real hotrodder, your life will not be complete untill you see this movie.

To me the story was awesome, as well as the cool footage on the salt.

Excellent flick. Our group of He-Men, took their spousal units to see it. It was a great movie, one that ended too soon. It left you wanting more. I was on the phone right after the movie, with my dad and friends, and told them to go see it. We all had a blast, and the women were all very impressed, and loved the movie.
Finally, a true 'Man-Flick'. I recommend it to all. I was chastised briefly for pointing at all the cool old cars, and telling my spousal unit, what they were.
    GO SEE IT.
    That is all.

[soapbox]Its a real movie. No hollywood BS or political motivation behind unnecessary scenes. Makes me feel like I don't work or dream hard enough. Chose to see it at Glenwood Art Theatre instead of AMC mega-plex. Adds to the feel. Anyone near KC should see it there.[/soapbox]

The closest is showing is over 400 miles away, I wanted to see it on the big screen. The salt scenes would have to be awesome. Now I hope to find it on DVD if and when it comes out.

  26. Entertaining flick, not all the facts are "correct" but it's worth the 9 bucks to see it...hell, might have been 10 bucks (plus 38 bucks for popcorn and a coke).

i finally got to see this movie sunday night and it was better than i could have imagined, im sure they added alittle flare to the story but hopkins did such a great job that i couldnt have cared less about a few inaccuracies.

definitely worth seeing over and over

Just saw it a couple days ago with the wife. I was thinking she may not get into it, but she really liked it - said it was "a great character study" - I'd hafta agree.

It got a nice ovation from the audience when it was over, so I'd say most everyone in the crowd enjoyed it.

Note: At first, it was only going to be playing here at the small downtown theatre where they only play artsy-fartsy Indie films, but since its been getting good revue's it's now come out in some of the more major chain cinemas - so some of you guys that are having difficulty finding it at a place near you might have better luck soon.

I haven't been able to find a local theater. Anyone know where (if) it is showing in the Philly area?

I'd just like to add my 2 cents in on how cool the movie was. I work for the local cable company so I get every single movie channel for free PLUS I have a big screen TV at home which all boils down to I never go out to the movies any longer. In fact, Rudy and I have been dating for 2 1/2 years and until last Sat we had never been to the movies together. This movie is a MUST see for anyone even slightly interested in hot rods, "motor-sickles", salt flat racing, for anyone interested in a feel good, determination always prevails kind movie. We laughed, we cheered, we clapped, I cried, Rudy didn't. (he says) Anyway, I encourage everyone to try to see it at least once on the "big" screen. Well worth the $9 a ticket:eek: (when did movie tickets reach $9 ????)
